Well I finally got what I had been wanting. 79 Bronco. It has a new rebuilt 351M, good driveline, seats, and carpet. But it is mildewed and will need to be cleaned good. Now for the bad, the door jams are rusted bad from people not closing the door compltely and water running down it. From the front of the front seats forward the floor will have to be replaced. The wheel arches and are few other places are rusted, but I think now I can clean out the rust best as possible and fill it with Kitty Hair(fiberglass like bondo) to last a few years until I have the money to do it right. The back glass window is messing. I guess its alright though, I only gave $450 for her. Yall think she was worth it?
That thing could be a Canada Bronco with all the MapleLeafs on it LOL.
How can you go wrong if you only paid $450 for it.
You can buy patch panels for all the rusted spots and the musty smell can be fixed too, take the Carpet out and shampoo it and let it dry outside if it's good or just throw it away and get complete new carpet from Jeffs bronco graveyard for $205 and start over or if it's just going to be a bush truck take the carpet out clean and dry the floors and then get it sprayed with Line-X or one of the other bedliners.
Either way you got a great truck and you are sure to have a lot of fun with it,
Just so you know the back window will only fit from a 78 or 79 unless you update the cap too the tailgates are all the same just the glass and cap change so just match the cap year to the glass year if you can't find a 78/79 glass.
Would a 650 cold cranking amp be good enough for the ole 351M? I need to pick up one so I can get her home. I think she would be alright to drive put I think ill just trailer it home and service it good before I drive it alot. Im gonna change the oil/filter, check rearend/frontend grease, grease u-joints. Check power steering fluid and transmission fluid. What should I do for servicing the t-case? I think im gonna have alot of fun with this project.
My guess is anything liquid should be changed ie... coolant, trans/transfer case fluid, engine oil brake fluid and power steering fluid because if the truck sat for any length of time things like especially the brake fluid pick up moisture
and moisture is terrible for many reasons including rust and engine wear as well as part failure.
Its a cheap way to make sure you don't have unexpected bigger problems down the road.
The other things I look at are coolant or rad hoses and clamps as well as heater hoses and water pump.
And a new Air filter and fuel filter with a tune up wouldn't hurt either.
I know a lot of stuff right but really parts and difficulty of repairs or maintanence I have mentioned is pretty cheap and easy.
In Canada water pump is $35 Brake parts complete including all rotors and drums Calipers and wheel cylinders is $300 Tune up parts including cap rotor and plugs and wires with a new PCV valve is only around $100 Air and fuel filters total about $30 add another $100 for oil and hoses and coolant and you time of course and you have a grand total of $565
Which puts you on the road safe and dependable for around $1000 price of the truck included, pretty good I would say for being able to drive what many 4X4 magazines from 1978 to present desribed as the best 4X4 ever built
I live in western Kentucky. In the winter we sometimes see 20 degree or less weather but not much. What kind of fluid do I need for the t-case and is there a drain on it? Im use to working on mostly 2wheel drive trucks. The guy said it had been sitting for about a year and a half. Im gonna put some STP gas treatment in it and fill er up with some 93 octane to burn out the old and get everything cleaned out. How many quarts of oil the 351M hold? My 302 holds 5, I figured maybe a quart or two extra for the 351M.
