I have the stock version in my 07 and I don't know if it does anything. I was on a job site today and nearly got stuck twice in some stuff that wasn't that bad. I just sat and spun. I would get some type of electric locker if I was you. One that you can engage when needed.

I myself was actually quite impressed of the stock version of LS. Seems to work everytime I get slip. No clunking or anything. But if you want positive catch definetly go witha electronic locker, you won't regret that decision.

Mine is supposed to be LS, but it doesn't appear to work on my 06 Screw. Could there be something wrong?

I'm suprised that one of the top of the line trucks didn't come with limited slip.

its orderable either way, i've noticed that alot of dealerships order it without to keep the cost down thinking that most people won't ever notice. If i were having it installed after the fact, i'd go with an eaton

I've had good luck with these....

I'm going to +1 the Eaton. I had an open rear end in my 04 Ranger. Installed an Eaton Detroit Tru-Trac carrier and BINGO - I've got a gear -driven (not a clutch driven) LS rear end that is now stronger than factory. I took some pics of the install: LINKEE

Remember, factory LS clutch-packs will wear out and eventaully leave you with an open rear end = no more LS.

I've never had a LS rear that 'didn't work'. If I had any doubts I would just scratch out in some gravel, get out of the vehicle and look for two scratches. A LS rear is not a guarantee that you can go on anything. If both wheels are on ice for example, they'll both spin. LS rears also require different/better driving skills as both wheels spinning can throw the tail around quicker than an open rear spinning just one. Still, I like LS rears although I don't have one in my base-model Ford.

I think on those 1 wheel wonder axles, we used to hold the brakes a little if we were in a bad spot (snow, mud, etc), while hitting the gas.

That is essentially what 'traction control' does on some newer cars - it works through the ABS system.

I have an 05 SCrew 4x4 with an open differential. Would it be advantagous for me to get one of these or would it be a waste of money? What would the advantages be if any?

tripps,

If you ONLY drive your SCREW on the road then it's a waste of money. If you go off road (hunting, camping, hiking, etc.) then it's a big advantage. With the LS you basically go from a 2 wheel drive vehicle (even though it says "4x4") to a rear axle in which BOTH wheels can have power diverted to them. If one rear wheel spins out the other will have some power diverted to it. RIght now if your rear drive wheel spins out, you're sunk. Also remember, your front drive train is also just a one-wheel drive if you spin - there is no LS available for the front, for obvious reasons.

It really depends on your truck usage. Again, if you're just putting arond town, no need. If you go to sloppy places now and then, hell yes I'd do it. I'd put in a Detroit Tru-Trac.

I would be highly interested in doing this. What is involved in the installation? Are there any special tools or anything else that I may have to purchase and how long would this take? Can anyone point me to some kind on instructions?

TIA

I don't have instructions but IMO it's very involved. There are some pretty tight specs to stick to when aligning the ring and pinion gear set - they may have to be shimmed. Take a look at some pics of the install done on my Ranger: LINKEE

My truck had an open rear end when I got it. The Tru-Trac is a nice upgrade IMO.
