Can you tell me how to jump the compressor to see if it still works? My hubby did some messing around and hit a curb in the snow blew the pass rear tire and now the rear is sagging havent heard the compressor kick in? i am planning to check the air lines and all but need to get the rear aired up for now. any suggestions? 99 expy 4x4 v8 (eb edition) all the fuses seem to be fine too.

Check switch on pass. side by the kick panel. Make sure the switch didn't trip.

from the ford service manual
1) check and make sure all doors, lift gate, and lift gate glass are closed- air suspension will not work correctly.
2)check to make sure lines aren't crimped.
3)check to make sure air springs aren't damaged.
4)transmission in park
5)parking brake not set and don't press on brake pedel.
6)the accelerator is not pressed during testing.
7) check air line fitting under master cylinder to make sure lines are connected.
Good luck,
Scott

That bump may have sent too much pressure to the compressor and put it out of commission. Do check the switch on pass kick panel. Turn it off. Look for the check suspension light once you start the engine. If it doesn't come on, the Computer may have felt it too. Put it you this way, I had to get a new compressor for my 2002 Ex one month after I bought it. The price list goes as follows:

first dealership - $89 for checking suspension
sencond dealership - $89 for correctly checking suspension
the lot I got it from - $550 for the new compressor and installtion

Yes, it was a pretty penny. Keep in mind. Each rear bag runs about $300! You do the math. In other words, hubby needs to get you something really, really nice for Valentine's Day!!

P.s. Jack the Ex up under the rear pass door while the switch is on and listen for the compressor. Remember, even while the engine is off, the vehicle will try to sit an even plane. That's why you have to turn off the switch BEFORE you change a tire. Put the jack under the frame not the axle.

I have a compressor that I removed from my 98. It worked when I took it out to get rid of the air system (front shocks failed) and go to springs and shocks. IF you need it, make me an offer and it's yours. It's taking up space in my garage now.

If indeed it is the compressor, than I suggest dealing with this guy listed in the link. He gives a 2 year warranty with his compressors. He also has other parts you may need as well. I changed mine out in about an hour.

If the rear is down and the compressor is not running, Hubby may have dislodged the rear height sensor. If the sensor is extended, the system thinks the rear end is too high and has vented the air. Compressor damage, at this point, is unlikely.
Jack up the rear and support it on the frame. Look for the height sensor and make sure it is connected. It will resemble a small shock absorber with a wiring harness coming out of it, connected to the axle and the body, usually on the left axle tube or the differential housing.

If you post the model year of the vehicle, I can look up the AS section in the manual. Is it 4x2 or 4x4? There is a self test that can be run to help pinpoint problems. The system isn't complicated but the factory service info is very helpful if you aren't familiar with it.
