So my rear passenger air bag is leaking my, causing my compressor to work too much....
Boom now I have a double wammer a bad air bag and a fried compressor, compressor still works, but the gears are shot ( compressor is dead). Should I invest $260 on a factory rebuilt compressor and a new air bag or should I buy the SPRING CONVERSION KIT?
I'm still kicking myself in the *** for not doing the conversion right away when I started having problems with the LLS on my 2000 EB. Which I sold last week...
My air pump for the suspension is making a god awful noise when I start my Expedition. It only lasts for a few seconds, until it gets the pressure right I guess. I am not losing pressure or sagging. I was told it was probably the bushings on the pump. I can move the pump upward about an inch or so. Has anybody else had this issue and does this sound like the right fix? If not any suggestions would be appreciated.

Change the bushings-that's all that you need to do. The noise you're hearing is from the pump body rattling against the mounting bracket.

Thanks JL!! I will be doing just that this weekend. It looks to be a fairly simple job, even I should be able to handle it. Just as a followup... if the pump goes bad, does it just quit? Or will it start acting up in other ways? This will be my first vehicle with the LLS, so I am trying to learn as I go. Is this a bad system overall? Or are the complaints I see on here about it not the norm?

On the spring conversion kit: Does switching to the springs change the truck's towing capacity? Can the springs hold up as much as the bags, or will you experience spring sag over time? If so, would you now be able to add those air pumped spring boosters on the frame rail to enable better towing? I'm just wondering if the spring conversion is really strong enough to tow something with a heavier tounge weight. I looked at the front conversion picture and it looks like a smaller diameter spring that fits around a shock absorber - how strong is that compared with what you normally see on trucks, like a separate spring/shock? Just looking at options, would appreciate feedback. Thanks.

Typically-the pump will stop working on and off as it's failing, then it'll stop altogether. The LLS system is not a bad system-it just has it's failures from time to time, and alot of them are from poor or no maintenance.

The conversions do not change the towing capacity, but be ready for a sagging rear end if you tow anything with a fairly moderate tongue weight.
IMO-these conversions are OK if you're wanting to be lazy in avoiding maintenace of the LLS or don't want to repair things that you don't understand. Honestly-I feel that they're a poor attempt at a hack-job repair.

The air suspension is a good system and can be trouble free for may years. (My 00 gator has gone 100k by replacing a $35 conector) The system only has a few componets that can be replaced by the owner with aftermarket parts without breaking the bank. The advantages of the self-leveling far out weigh the standard springs.

Reading JL above, I would have to agree that you would be taking a risk with sagging springs due to heavy tounge weight, as most trailers are if they are utility trailers like mine. Anyway, I suppose you could convert to springs in back and add those air levelers to bring up the sag during towing, but then, isn't that just going back to square one? I've replace the union, compressor, mounting grommets, and an o-ring on the system and it hasn't stumped me yet, (mainly cause I just ask folks for help like JL, CMK, and 01silvergt here in this forum and get good help here). I'll keep the LLS, it ain't that bad of a system. Stuff gets old, stuff breaks, you fix it, ... life in the LLS lane
I would have loved to have the air leveling system dragging this beast with my Explorer inside it. The LLS system is good, it just requires one to stay on top of it if there are problems as things can burn out quickly.
Yeah I decided that for $230 I can get the compressor and the bad, keep the truck just like it came from factory tow my boat with it and live to complain in a few years. thanks for the help. The one thing that did amazed me with the LLS is that when the solenoid on the air bags click to deflate the air comes out through the compressor kind of interesting
Well I went to Ford toda to purchase new bushings for my air pump on my 2000 EB... In true big business fashion it was going to cost me $86 plus tax for the whole "bracket kit", because according to the dealer they don't sell just the bushings, and evidently those brackets must be fragile...NOT!!! So, 1 trip to NAPA later, I bought 2 rubber bushings for $8, a little thick, but sliced them in half, used what was left of the old ones to keep the gap similar, put it all back together, and what do you know, no more loud vibrations and runs like a top. Still sounds like an air pump, but much better than before. If anybody knows of a real bushing kit for this that I could buy I would really appreciate it. Thanks for the help JL!!
