That's what I heard too, once those issues on the storms were sorted out they went pretty good. I still like the 90's sleds, probably cause I grew up on them. A 92 V-Max 4 (man that thing sounded sweet) Storms, XLT's, 650's, Mach 1's and Z's all good memories. My brother borrowed a sled once, it was a Formula III 600 body but it had a 780 triple with stingers it...fastest 600 that day!
I forgot about the VMAX 4's. A guy in town still has one. He then had an SRX, a 700 Mountain Max, then a Viper Mntn, and now an Apex Mntn (think he is a yammie guy???). That was one heck of an engine, it had its own sound and throttle response. Its smooth running quality and that clutch mounted on that countershaft made it run forever. There were some very high miled Vmaxes out there.
seen lots of those Vmax's in the ice drags. great 1 mile flat racer sled, pig in the uphills or deep snow. cousin of mine had a '98 XC 700...we ported, polished, and shaved the heads, played with clutches and jets and boy did that thing go like stink!!! great sled for the uphill drags. of all the recreation sports out there, sledding has gotten to be the most expensive...i'm staying away from it until i start seeing some real snow hit the ground!!
My cousins V-max went throught he mill and back, he was so hard on everything he had. Last time he had it he hit an approach wrong and the sled flipped, landed on its hood with the throttle wide open and upside down. The hood was taken home in a garbage bag! Kept running after that though. He then bought a SRX 700, ran it into a fence and traded it off on a quad. I would like to buy the old Vmax 4 and fix it up but he doesn't want to part with it. I can still hear that 4 cylinder whining across the stubble fields!!
Sherm those Xc's went well stock, I can imagine what a modded one would do! You can always find a good cheap used one to go riding, you usually get decent snow near Yorkton and Kamsack area don't you?
kamsack got decent snow, but we haven't got much here around yorkton. i went for a rip to good spirit and back last monday and it was just lousy!! doesn't help that the sleds i ride are well beyond replacement date. i'd consider getting one, but the season is too short to justify it, and with a kid on the way i don't need the extra expense.
We just got the Ultra this august. The bottom end was just redone, xtra 12 suspension, clutched and it has been piped. I am just learning about sleds so I don't know to much but, the wife was impressed, shes the one who got me into sleds. Anyways it sure scoots across the fields.
lots of other things is right...like my '83, and i'd like to get a small boat for the summer... guess that shouldn't be that important either but we'll see how it goes...
