Skidoo changed the industry in a huge way with the 'rider forward' position on the REV's. There are some people (myself included) who cannot get comfy with that position. I have ridden about half a dozen of those sleds and the RT1000 and its not for me. The Polaris and Yamaha rider forward positioning better suits me. The new Skidoo XP chassis that replaced the REV has a more relaxed rider position that is almost identical to the Polaris IQ chassis. There was a group of us that compared them all quite extensively at the sled show in Edmonton this past spring.
However, the people who can get comfy with the sled love it! Most other sleds seem to look 'dated' when parked beside the REV - it looks futuristically horny!!!
i really like the rider forward feeling of the yammy's. haven't been on one in action, but its gotta beat a '98 supersport thats been through the ringer...
Sounds like you guys have some nice sleds out there and hopefully we get more snow to ride them.
I'm not familiar with Yamaha 4 stroke sleds that come turbo'd from the factory. I know Arctic Cat and Polaris had them but Yammie still is N/A.
I like your SRX - a few guys around here had them and they were nice sleds. The triple cylinder sleds with triple pipes were real smooth running powerful machines. Most were too heavy but the SRX and the last 800 Polaris made ( I think it was the XCR 800) were the exceptions. I can remember snowplowing with my Storm and some of the guys on Mach Z's - it took lots of throttle to keep them afloat!
Thanks for the compliments, this was the sled I wanted for years and finally found one a year ago. That is the one thing I really like is the fact that it doesn't feel as heavy as some of the other triple/triples. They had lots of power but you needed all of it in the big snow. I always wanted a 95 storm, although they had some issues they looked mean.
I was hoping that Yamaha had turbocharged sled from the factory! May have to take out a loan!!! But yes Polaris' turbocharged sled is supposed to rip, without the turbo, who knows, may be a dog.
I would sure like to see more snow so we can ride without hitting the lumps and rocks underneath. The best riding was on the big, 1/2 mile long sloughs this week. Untouched 4-6 inches of powder and wide open throttle!
What can I say, she's a speed freak. Her first question when we were looking at it was " will it go faster than yours?" When I said "yes" she said "I'll buy that".

My cousin and I had a pair of these - his was a short track and mine was an SKS. They actually ran quite well once we got some things worked out on them - clutching and jetting mostly and some terrible belt wear!
These are our sleds the Ultra is the wife's and mine is the XLT
I like those 1996 Ultras. I bought a new SKS and piped it before it hit the snow. It was pretty strong - about 135 hp like the Storm was and about 40 pounds lighter once it was piped and had some plastic skis put on.
I had more time and money back then and after the first winter of running it piped, I redid the whole project and put in an 800 big bore kit. It was in the mid 160's for power and there wasnt much that would stay with it because it was so much lighter than the factory big boys! I literally played with Mach Z's and Storms, and embarassed a few Thundercat boys. Yeah, those were some good times, although expensive!
