I guess it depends on the compressor. Mine is not loud at all, and can barely be heard when going down the road. It kind of blends in with the sound of the engine. It only runs for ~30 seconds when it does come on though. The situation would be different in an x-cab or single cab, i am sure.
OK, I take it back. I wouldn't recommend putting my compressor in the cab.
Over the engine I wouldn't expect to hear it, but if it were in the cab it would be VERY noticeable. I'm glad mine's under the truck, because it's the last thing I'd want to listen to.. You're right, though, it's onlly on for 30-60 seconds at a whack..

I did add a switch to turn it on and off as needed, and it would be very easy to relocate. Mine did not come with a snorkel, so it made the behind the seat mount the most logical.
Does anyone know if there is a remote way to acuate the solenoid, i.e. be able to blast from a couple hundred feet away? I can chirp it with the factory key fob (door lock). I want to be able to blast it.
Easily , yes. I have a 4 button remote. Each button does something, now... Holding down the "Blue" button for 3 seconds will result in a 3 second blast of the horn, and so on.... It's amazing.
Check out this video, it's how I did it, because if you look, there's no one in the truck:

That's great! How do I go about doing that? I have a regular key fob. I discovered by accident, months ago, that if I push the lock button three times (the horn blows twice) and the truck cranks. I bought the truck used. I don't know exactly where I'm going with this except to say It's already remote starting and the usual stuff with the key fob.
I want to be able to blast the horn remotely, even if I have to get an additional remote. Any ideas?
Well, you can buy a single button controller that will do it, you simply need to wire it up properly. Mine was initially wired to blast the split second you touched the button, but it was so sensitive it was blasting 30X/day, and not always at the "right" moments. Any alarm/stereo shop in your area can do this for you , it's nothing more then an electrical device, at that point (similiar to your remote, your power windows, locks, etc..).
My favorite time was when I was inside a sub shop with the wife, eating. Outside, this guy was CLIMBING UP my steps to put something on my windshield. I hit the horns. He levitated about 4' up and flew backwards, landing on the ground. His papers went everywhere. He got up and ran.
I found out he was looking for votes for the local selectman. I think he got one.

I am thinking about hooking up an additinal set of horns, i have the kong horns from seige. They are pretty loud, but my buddy can get a set of horns free and I figured why not..I will let ya know in the next couple of weeks how it goes..

Are you planning to blast them together or toggle between them?
i just mounted my new setup this past weekend.... i got the viair system with the one gallon tank.. the horns are huge and it was hard to find a spot but i found one that is really nice and the horns are hidden... i placed them in front of the radiator... they just fit in there between that and the a/c cooler... and they sound awsome
