Cranking problem developed

I had to crank a while on my truck today to get it to start as the gpr is going out, but now it developed a problem. I never cranked on it more than 20 seconds at a time without letting things cool down a bit. Now, today when i turn the key to start, nothing happens. All the lights are on, etc, but no glow plug relay (led in cab) and no cranking. Turn the key switch back on and try it, still noting and still no gpr light. Try it again, and everything works fine, the relay light comes on, and it cranks over and finally starts.

Any ideas?

Could also be in the switch itself. Seems like I remember in the past others having problems with bad switches.

Don't forget to check the other ends of the cables. Not just the battery side.

Okay, cleaned all the cables, made sure everything is tight, etc, still doing this. I noticed today, that if I held the key in the start position, after about 10 seconds, it started cranking? Is this a relay issue, or a starter issue, or key switch issue?

help.....

Have you tried jumping the relay on the firewall with the key in the on position?

no, i have not done that, I will try that. Would extended cranking cause that to start acting up?
