glow plug light = Wait To Start - bottom right corner
if its cold ill wait for it but during warm times its crank an go
as far as additive all i have ever used is diesel kleen and never ever any oil additives they just dont play well with the 3000psi HPOP
Lose the Superchips, I have been in a few 7.3s with it and its not impressive. Go with the DP-Tuner and gauges. Glad to see you finally got one I hope it treats you well!
Welcome aboard. The glow plug in a diesel is sort of like the spark plug in a gasser... Okay nothing like it, but the analogy is appropriate. The WTS (Wait To Start) light comes on telling you the glow plugs are heating the chamber and when it goes out its okay to crank the engine. When the engine is warmed up it will still come on, but not for as long. Some people will say it's okay to just crank it over like a gasser without waiting and maybe they're right, but I'm never in such a hurry that I cant wait a few seconds. I used to use Diesel Kleen, but I personally just didn't see enough gain from it to justify the additional cost per tank. That again is just my opinion.
Thanks guys. More questions though, I don't have the high idle, but is it ok to idle the truck in the cold mornings for 10-15 mins? Is that long enough to get it to operating temp? My drive is only about 8 miles.

Your truck should go into high idle all by it's self on a cold morning. How cold does it get where you are at?
if you crank it and do not apply the brake after starting it should go into high idle (1100rpm) on cold mornings. A bad sensor could cause a false reading that would disable it but it will take a scanner that can read live data to check them if they are not throwing a code. sensors to check are Intake air temp ( in the intake housing), Engine oil temp (top of HPOP reservoir), and BARO (barometric pressure)(part of the PCM)
The 10 - 15 min. won't hurt anything. Usually it will jump to the 1100 - 1200 range when it's cold out after a couple of minutes. If your just taking a bunch of short trips with it don't forget to get out and cruise on the highway every once in a while
I always let mine idle for 5-10 minutes before leaving the house. It takes a good 5-10 miles for the PSD to reach normal operating temp when driving from a cold start on a 30 degree morning. I use schaeffer's diesel treat,
