Ford Diesel Additive

Hi All,
Since the new ULSD fuel has come to my area and all the local stations are using it, I have been using the Ford additives in both my 6.0 and 6.4 diesels. In the warmer weather (summer) I use the Cetane Booster & Performance Improver (red cap) and in the winter I use the Anti Gel & Performance Improver (blue cap).
My question has to do with the Anti Gel stuff. This past week it has gotten down to -35 degrees F here in Fairbanks and I found my Anti Gel was thick as peanut butter! It didn't flow out of the bottle when turned upside down until I brought it indoors and warmed it up!
Was this a bad bottle or is this what I can expect to happen. If this happens in the bottle, what's it doing in my tank? And lastly, what is everyone else using that deals with cold weather? I don't want to get stranded 'cause my fuel has frozen!

I think it behaves different when it is mixed with diesel. Antifreeze will also freeze at extreme lo temprature unless it is mixed with water. Here in Florida the only ice we see is in the freezer.

If I leave the bottle in the truck the anti gel will start to thicken up seating in the truck if it gets cold outside. To me it's working like normal. You may want keep it inside until you use it.

at -35 i wold be wrapping the feed and return lines with plumbers insulation to help keeping the fuel bit warmer to avoid jelling. i bet there is a way to fit an electric fuel heater to the feed and return line too. i did this on my big trucks when i ran a lot into canada. it kept me running at 55 below.

Actually kawtiper, there was a time not so long ago when -35 was considered a GOOD day! The last few years, Alaska has seen a warming trend...we don't get the severe cold that we used to back in the '70's. We've gotten a bit spoiled to be truthful.
Still, I've lived in the Frozen North long enough to know the one sure thing about the weather here is that we'll have some. Don't know what it will be like, but you can bet there will be weather!
I haven't given my arctic gear away just yet...you never know when Mother Nature will remind us of the good ol' days!

Boy I remember visiting Alaska when I was a kid- we went all the way to Pt. Barrow and were there on June 21- sun never went down and we took a picture of my mom reading the paper outside at midnight- but the winters, with little or no sunlight, would drive me nuts...how do you stand it??

What kind of worm close do you have to get just to step foot out in -35. Your hands would freeze so fast. Well you guys way up north manage some how. You must carry some kind of safety gear. If your truck brakes down in that temperature you could die quick if not pre-paired.

Well skl, I'll tell you, it does take some getting used to! But it's not as bad as you might think. vehicles have headlights, we have electricity, and we just take in as it comes. We have daylight every day where I live (you have to go way up north - to Pt. Barrow - to be completely in the dark). and we watch as the days get shorter unti Dec 21st and then they start getting longer again. It's really not that big a deal for us. Just one of the quirks of living here!

hd4ever. I have a couple sets of clothes that I carry depending on the temperatures I expect. For regular winter I have a set of Carhart's that I wear along with a good set of gloves and green military mukluks with double liners. That gets me through most of the year.
Now if the weather really turns nasty, I am prepared for that as well with a full set of arctic gear including a down parka and pants, a down face mask, big heavy mittens and white "bunny boots". This gear I have tested myself by hitchiking 78 miles to Fairbanks one winter at a measured -72F below zero! So I know it works! I walked the mile and a half to the highway and stood out there for over an hour waiting for the one car that was on the road that day. They picked me up, and we went to town. And I never felt the cold one bit.
