I Have a 2006 F-350 CC 6.0 I just recently added a OEM power cord and read it out like the paperwork said, it was reading 15.6 OHMs right in the middle of the 12.75-17 OHM range stated. So I would assume it works, but after plugging it in twice both times over 3-4 hours (I read in another thread that was optimum) When I turned the key my temp gauges did not move. I saw no signs anything was heated. Do you usually se something on the temp gauges after being plugged in?

Reason: Grammer
Using the block heater does not bring the coolant up to operating temperature and I have never seen the glorified idiot light on the dash register as a result of its use. However, I do consistently notice that the glowplugs do not need to cycle as long before startup and the ECT takes much less time reach normal operating range. Also the truck it much more behaved on cold startup, it doesn't smoke/buck/snort nearly as much.
If your really curious as to whether or not its working take a temperature reading on the block, or just lay your hand on it (make sure you're touching the block) and see if it's warmer than ambient.
I have a scangage on my truck and there is no mvement on the dash gauge until the scangage reads 50 Celcius. It doesnt move into the band until 55 and the max temp I see is 90C, usually rides on 88 when fully warm. The temp gauge on these trucks are about as good as oil pressure gauge, pretty much a fancy idiot light.
I plug mine in all the time in the winter when I park it.Warmup is alot quicker almost right away, the high idle doesn't kick in and on a short trip the frost is gone in less than a minute. It would probably cost more for a timer than what it costs to use it all the time.
if i plug mine in after shutting it off the engine stays warm longer. the idiot temp guage actually registers a colant temp change. if i were to plug it in 3-4 hrs before i leave it does help but not nearly as much as leaving it on all the time.
