I will look at it when I get it to my house, and do what is less work. The exterior of both beds are clean, so I will just cut the rust out of the one that is going to be less work overall, and scrap the other one.
If I could find another I would try to put a box on both sides as well, but I am not sure it would work.
if you have 2 gas tanks you can only have one tool box. if you dont have the under bed tank i THINK you can put it on both sides. but the box is not symmetrical at the back, one corner is cut off and at a 45 degree and the other is a normal corner...
I have that same under bed tool box, but the darn thing always seems to collect water. I changed the seals on the door of it but it still leaks. Has anyone else had this problem or figured out how to fix it?
I will look at mine. I just got the bed home, and it doesn't seem to have taken much water.
Just for anyone thinking of doing a box on both sides. The notch is for the spring shackle. To mount one on both sides would require some work, because the front is not square. The top is longer, and the notch has to be to the back. To do it would require cutting the back off and welding it back on flipped. Mine (shortbox) looks like the one pictured below, except the notch is all 90 degree cuts like a stair.
On the subject of using the bed with the tool box or moving the toolbox to a new bed. I looked at it over the weekend. The hole in the box looks like someone did it with a hacksaw, and there is no extra support except the brackets at the rear shown below. I am going to remove the box from the bad bed and mount it to my good bed.
