hope you all had a great holiday. i am just wondering about the under the bed tool box. the one on the passenger side infront of the rear wheel. does anyone make a kit to put one into a bed that does not have one? or would i just have to find a bed off a different truck and use that one? and if i do need to use a different bed what years will work for a 70 long bed with the lower 2nd tank filler hose?
I found one in a junk yard and cut it out and welded it into my 67's bed. I didn't swap beds because the 67 doesn't have side markers and I wanted to keep it looking like a 67. It worked out preety good, see my pics in my gallery

A tool box kit was available from the parts department.
The tool box could be mounted on either side.
I've seen these original kits on ebay, but be careful..there's 4 different ones.
1964/66 short (C4TZ-9946132-A) or long (C4TZ-9946132-B) wheelbase.
1967/72 short (C7TZ-9946132-B) or long (C7TZ-9946132-A) wheelbase.
Thanks for the infromation that helps. One last questions though, what kind of suport do they use? I am sure that the bedside sheet metal wouldnt give much suport.

8 screws held the bezel surrounding the door to the quarter panel, then there were braces that bolted from the toolbox to the bottom of the bed. Sheet metal was a lot thicker back then, then it is today..prolly three times as thick. We used to take my '65 to Riverside to watch the NASCAR road race events (Dan Gurney, driving a Ford, usually won). Standing on the bedsides didn't hurt them a bit...and at 250 lbs (back then), I was no lightweight. I wouldn't attempt standing on the bedsides of my 2006 Notaford, just leaning against this pile, dents the metal.

I've stood on the bedrails of my '05 ISAFORD many times, and on the rails of the '08 ISAFORD a couple times already - no problems. (Built Ford Tough, remember?)

Uh huh...and do you weigh 335 lbs?
Just try leaning against the sides of your Izaford (or any other pile made today).
Listen to how the sheetmetal reacts.
Buh...bump!

335? Not quite. But with one son and myself standing on the same rail side by side, definitely more than that!
I also had the unfortunate experience of connecting with a traffic sign with the (then) new '08 F350. Lets see - passenger mirror folded in, grey (aluminum color) paint streak on plastic. Passenger's fender had scratch about 5" long. 1/4' wide, clear to primer, plus another smaller scratch near door, and several paint streaks down door.
Road sign? Bent back around post at about a 45 degree angle.......
I got out to look, expecting to see the whole side of the truck tore up - had to look for the scratches!
Just bought a short bed with the toolbox in it, and it has some rust spots, and my current shortbed has some rusted out spots. Luckily they are not in the same places. The rust is all along the front on the bed with the tool box, and the rust on my current bed is small and just in front of the wheel wells on the sides. I think the rust repairs would be easier on my current bed, but I do want the toolbox since it works, and the box is not rusted. My question is can I simply cut a hole in my current bed, and put the box in? I would bet Numberdummy kows the answer. So if you have a chance Bill drop me a note.
the bed side with the tool box has a resest section all around the the perimiter of the box so the doors sit flush. what you can do is cut the bed side out on both trucks and swap them.
I read on another thread from NumberDummy that these were optional items from the parts dept. If that is true shouldn't I be able to remove the supporting brackets, and cut a hole and mount it all in my existing bed? I don't have the toolbox bed at my house yet, so I haven't had a chance to look at it to tell myself. I may just get it flip it, and then figure out how to mount it.
but as good (thick) as the metal is you should be able to cut a section out for the recessed area. I have found a bed with the toolbox on the right but I may look for another & put one on both sides!!!
