just curious how you did this, sounds like it may be an idea on wifes truck, instead of wires hanging down all over.
To be honest, I'm not sure how it all goes together. I had it all installed by a professional. But at some point I can go and look and try to see exactly what they did and let you know.
The antenna wire is made flat for the exposed part...then the wire itself is pretty thin so running it through the trim on the third brake light is nothing. Remove the trim around the headliner and it will move enough to get your hands in there for when you feed it from the third brake light, then run it along the back of the headliner, down the trim to the floor and take off the threshold trim, (Trim at the bottom of the door openings). There is a channel or groove that the wiring for the truck runs through...just follow that. It will lead to the front and then you can run it up under the dash to the unit. Harder than it sounds...really.
I put mine on the front drivers corner. Just ran it up the door weatherstrip and onto the roof. Just make sure you use that little piece of tape to suport the coax. they are very weak and the air movement off the truck breaks the wires inside if it can wiggle around . The antena's are expensive so you don't want to break them.
I am in the Midwest and I have my antenna on the dash. Now I know people are going to say that you get bad reception that way but in the Midwest the sats are almost directly overhead. I have a jeep with a roll cage and spreader bars. In the jeep I have the antenna mounted to one of the center spreader bar and even with the top off I get the same reception as I do with the antenna on the dash of the truck. Place I have problems in teh truck I have the same problems with the jeep.
First antenna on rear roof through sliding rear window- lasted about a year.
Second antenna up through high rear brake light - lasted just under a year.
Third antenna on dash center with small duct tape doubled over underneith to prevent sliding. It seams there is no loss of signal with that large windshield.
I always keep one spare antenna bought from e bay.
Got mine hooked up yesterday, pretty easy. I went for the easiest ant routing and tucked it into the weather striping around the windshield. I got the pro install kit so it eliminated the need for the cigarette lighter power adapter, didnt want the extra wires hangin in front of the dash. the hardest part was paying for a year in advance for the service . It is the Sportster 5, now I just have to see if one of my kids will show me how to use it
I put my antenna at the rear of the cab with the wire ran thru the 3rd brake light. Looks nice and clean. I then mounted my radio above my rear view mirror using the suction cup mounted to the windshield. Ran power feed up from the dash. I tapped into the power from the overhead console, but it works much better using power from the same source as the factory stereo.
