Sirius questions

I'm going to install Sirius in my 2005 Super Duty crew cab and I have a few questions.

1. Would it be best to mount the Dot Ultra Low Profile Car Antenna on the front or back edge of the cab roof? I was thinking about putting it on the back and feeding the wire through the rear sliding window. Does it make any difference where it's mounted?

2. Will a car wash spray or air dryer blow the antenna off?

3. I ordered the FRD04-AUX so I can direct connect Sirius or any other audio to the audio system using RCA jacks. Is there any need to adjust the gain on the adapter module, ever? Any advice about where to mount the module or feed the wires out?

Thanks.

I was going to ask some of the same questions. My wonderful wife got me one for Christmas. I plan to install it this weekend.

Hey guys, I have Sirius on my work E250 and my F250SD
Read the instructions is my first bit of advise. It clearly states in them that you should mount the antenna at the rear of the roof 6" from the edge on centerline.
I have both of them mounted on centerline 6" from my windshield and do not have an issue...... That I know of. It is quite easy to run the small wire through the black weather striping molding with a plastic putty knife. I ran mine down the weatherstrip on my door and into the cab, up to the headliner and down in the center by my mirror. The antenna is a really strong maganet. The carwash will not move it. Makesure your rig is clean first though because it may scratch the paint while you manuver it into position.

I ran one a few weeks back. It was actually rather easy. Needs to be on the front is what the instructions told me. But I don't think it matter as long as there are no obstructions. And it looks clean if you can keep it within 3". The Ant is magnetic it's not going anywhere. I have the el cheapo receiver but it does everything I need it to do IE: plays music. Put in an FM modulater everything sounds ok. One day when someone buys me a Kenwood head set I will be gtg! Just pm me if you want more details.

I ran mine out the back of the cab through the third brake light and mounted it on the roof there. No problem with car washes either.

I mounted my Sirius antenna in the same position as homeslice did. Ran it down the passenger side floor (unit is under the seat, connected to my navi unit), up the corner pillar into the headliner and out the hole for the 3rd brake light. Makes it MUCH easier if you have a rear slider, otherwise get a coat hanger so you can fish it out of the headliner. I've had it there for over 2 years and had an XM antenna there years before that, never had a problem. My truck won't fit in a car wash but the pressure washer bays don't seem to phase...

I mounted mine on the back of the roof (got clearance lights on the front) and ran it into the roof through the top of the high-mount brake light. After removing the high-mount light, I had to temporarily drop the rear of the headlining a bit and then drill a hole in the the roof's "second skin" to get that connector through (all of the existing holes in the roof were too small).

After that it was easy to run it inside the headlining, down the rear pillar door seal, along the floor under the trim panel and up the driver's side door seal onto the top of the dash. Looks nice and clean, and that antenna magnet is pretty powerful -doesn't seem that it will go anywhere in a touchless car wash.

My antenna is actually under the dash as close to the windshield as I could get it. Works perfectly.

i also found on my setup the wireless FM transmission works best for me. I use FM frequency 90.3 have not had any problems even in very bad weather as we have here in western ny.

just curious how you did this, sounds like it may be an idea on wifes truck, instead of wires hanging down all over.

None of the installs mentioned here (front or rear roof mount) leave wires hanging down all over - they are all concealed.

I am curious about the under-the-dash location though - according to the Car Toys guys I talked to, this position will provide pretty bad reception.

I have mine on the dash and it works pretty good. I really am concerned about water coming in through the 3rd brake light even with siliconing the lenses.

Mine is on the back of the roof. Doesn't matter where...just so that is has a clear sky view. It shouldn't move in car washes....Mine hasn't and it has been hit quite a bit by high pressure spray. I haven'e taken it through an auto wash tho...too big....at least for those around here.
