dps performance customer service

I was going to give these guys a call to talk about getting a new ip.

I've heard (read) that they've had some customer service issues.

I have a local company that has a good rep for rebuilding pumps, but they don't seem all that interested in turning up the fuel or making any mods to the truck period.

While I know that their work is good, they also were the ones that stuck my pyro gage in the base of my y pipe.

I'm just trying to figure out if it will be a little easier to go local or go to a guy who has a little interest in getting a little more power out of a non-turbo IDI

Kens shop (DPS) is very busy.
I am running a set of his injectors and like them, but the turn around time was about 6 weeks to get them.
DPS has a great product, but is very hard to get in touch with on the phone, and has been for quite a while now.

Without a turbo, you will have a hard time burning all the fuel one of DPS's hotter pumps will put out.

Lots of people don't mind having EGT numbers that are not very accurate.
Many people don't realize the pyrometer is protecting the pistons from to much heat.
The pistons are the first thing that will suffer heat damage in your engine.

The closer you put the thermocouple to the pistons, the more accurate your EGT numbers will be to what the pistons are seeing.

That is the reason my thermocouple is sticking into the #7 exhaust port when it is installed.

Your truck sounds like about same set up mine, get the ram air set up and the bigger exhaust, like Dave sayes, get the EGT up to where it needs to be for non turbo truck, right out of the exhaust port.
As for the IP, the stock model will put out more than enough fuel, so just get the local guys to rebuild it for you if your happy with the price and some warranty considerations. It's easy to turn the pump up yourself if you follow the links that can be provided here by searching the subject. I'd post the link but my favorites got "cleaned up" the other day!

I don't necessarily need the hottest pump he can build, but one that may only be turned up a flat (the other shop wasn't interested in ANY modifications, just a strict rebuild).

I installed new injectors last year (14K ago), but I was thinking about putting his stage 1 injectors in as well. I just don't think that I'm going to get enough air in to justify the cost of something that's already working.

I just want a little more hp/torque for towing, but don't want to melt my engine when I'm at 14K GCVWR

Just get them to go over the pump, and then adjust the fuel yourself. Here's how to do it.

Do be aware that you will probably void any warranty they give you when you turn the pump up.

But you may also find that a newly rebuilt IP may give you enough fuel for your engine without the need to turn it up anyway.

As of right now, I get no black smoke on heavy accel. thats why I think I have a little room to turn.

I will say, I can see my exhaust better at night. The headlights of the cars behind me hi-light it. I'm wondering if I am smoking them out, but during the day, same roads, I can't see anything. Wierd????

Just the heat distorts the light shining through the exhaust.
And backlight smoke always appears darker.

With a fresh IP, you may find you have plenty of smoke, all the fuel parts get weak over time.
I would hate to think about how many million times your IP has pumped fuel into each injector over it's life.

fonefiddy-
Mainly made for turbo applications, I'm still a N/A and don't have any immediate plans for a turbo.

A stock pump is what you want, then. Call MWFI

Even at stock boost levels a turbo engine has about 50% more air in the cylinder to work with.

So a turbo engine can handle about 50% more fuel than a NA engine can.

A turbo IP on a NA engine is going to waste a lot of fuel.
And the air police will not be happy either, way to much black smoke almost all the time.

Chewy ,where are you, if you are on the west coast I can hook you up with a couple shops that will do what you want.

Also it would be nice if people on here at least gave a state they live in!!
