Engine trouble at high RPM's

I have a 87 F-150 300 I6. it has less than 3,000 miles on a rebuilt engine. It seems that whenever I really give it the gas and hit around 4,000 to 5,000 RPM's my engine really starts to shake. its kinda like its missing or something. after a min or so it runs like normal. its almost like the distrubiter can't keep up with my foot so to speak. I think I may have a creack in my distrubiter cap but i'm not really sure. I'm not sure if I can describe it any better its just kinda irritating. once in a while I get in one of those moods that ya just need to gun it and let the stress out .

Thanks alot,

Travis Vaughn

Straight sixes arent really designed for that kind of RPM load... they are a low RPM engine. That is probably part of the problem, your 300 just doesnt like that kind of screamin'. Is your 300 stock?

Like the previous post stated , your stress relief may be 99% of the problem . Continued abuse like that & you wont have to worry about it missing , it will be dead .

Engine trouble at high RPM's

ok it seems that I worded my question completly wrong. First off I'm not sure if that is really the RPM range that I notice the problem I am just taking a wild guess. The problem occurs depending when I shift usually while I am trying to beat what I like to call a creaper off the line.(A person that tries to get around you before the lane merges, people who do that really irritate me.) I try not to let it get that high RPM but there are times when it happens and it takes a bit for the engine to catch up. This is why I try and not let it happen very much. I recently had the engine rebuilt and I am atrying to find sa many of the problems as I can and fix them before something else goes wrong.

anyway hopefully that cleard up things. My engine is mostly stock with the exception of all the parts replaced in the rebuild and the K&N air filter. I'm really not sure what I can check to findout exactly what causes the engine basicly sound extreamy goofy and then run back to normal.
any suggestions on things to check would be greatly appricated.
