Post Best tires PSI

Hi:

I just brought 4 BFgoodrich Premier 235/75 R15 105S tires for my 96 V6 explorer and i am a litltle confuse about some info.

The tire said on the side "35 PSI Max pressure", and the guys of the tire shop inflate it to 35 PSI.

Is safe use the tires at max pressure in a trip of 1000 miles? And what happen with the pressure inside the tire when they are working for a long period of time?, like in the my long trip.

May be these are a newie questions but i´m concern about the best PSI for this tires to obtain the best MPG and the security of the trip

Thanks

35 sounds a tad high

Ahem. Look on the left hand side B pillar ... there should be a label there which gives you the cold tire pressures, front and rear. Follow them. My guess is that the ride in your Explorer rattles your teeth at 35 PSI.

For my '94 V6, Ford recommends 26 PSI all the way around. I can't see it being that different for yours. But check.

I agree with jtison....the only exception I would guess would be if you have LT tires instead of the P. I am running the LTs for both summer and winter....on the TA K/Os and Schwab TXR studded, these are a bit higher on the psi due to the 3-ply sidewalls. I ain't no expert by any means.

Merry Christmas ya all! Casey

I'm going to disagree with the last couple posts. 26 is too low. Ford sent out updated door pillar stickers years ago(Firestone fiasco)with update tire pressure levels. I think it was somewhere between 32-34. I got the update for my 94. I run 34 year round and my teeth don't rattle.

Geez, I over looked the last line in jtison's post...my bad. I also think 26 is too low for a 35 cold psi tire. I also run my tires a couple pounds under the cold psi. The LT tires I have on my 96 Explorer have a higher psi. I don't my teeth rattling but then again I drive the Explorer like a truck and not a sports car.

26 is what the label said

... and Ford didn't send me the update (that'd figure, I didn't own the EX until 2004). I went looking for a TSB, sure enough, there's one dated 2001. Now, to find the full text version (if somebody has a full text version of TSB 00L90, I'd be grateful ... I can't get at the shop's subscription to Alldata until later this month).

I've never questioned 26 PSI because the tire wear is so good at that pressure, and the ride is very decent in all road conditions.

In the meantime, is the new spec 32 or 34? (I've ridden tires on this vehicle at 36 PSI before by mistake ... ride was rather harsh)
