I just ordered a quad overhead pod with a isspro 40psi boost gauge. I don't use a tuner and my trailer only weighs around 4500lbs. I don't pull the trailer very often. I am planning on filling up the other three spots with water temp, tranny temp and oil pressure. Do I really need a pyrometer?
I vote yes even though you are running stock. Excessive EGT's can cause real problems. Even stock trucks can have turbo, injector, EGR issues as well as others that can cause EGT's to rise quickly. The pyro can help keep things in check.

Thanks for the reply, Is the stock tranny temp gauge worthless just like the stock water temp gauge? Would new sensors remedy the stock gauges? I will definitely purchase the egt gauge next. Thanks and have a great Christmas!
Extremely worthless. Definately get a tranny guage and one vote for a pyrometer. I hit 1250* stock towing before i got my Xcal III. I hit 1600* for about a second last night w/ the hybid race tune.

I will definitely save up and purchase a pyro gauge. Do I leave the stock tranny gauge and water gauge sensors plugged in or do I replace them when I install the new gauges? Thanks for all the help.
Definately get a pyrometer. I have hit the green/yellow line before while towing a trailor up a steep grade. Kept it out of yellow and red by letting of the pedal.. Would not think a complete stock truck could get EGT's high enought to do damage but i was wrong. And that was with a 4" MBRP trubo back exhaust, could only imagine it would be higher with stock exhaust. Thanks to the guage i am now protected.... Now i just wonder how high the EGT's have hit while towing with out the guage for the last year.

Factory tranny temp. sensor will stay. the aftermarket guage sensor uses a factory test port on the driver's side of the tranny. Not sure about water temp. I currently do not have one, thinking about it. I currently have Boost, Pyro; Tranny temp.
I went oil temp rather than oil pressure....If you are towing, it's better information to have oil temp. The factory gauge is good enough for pressure!

Actually it will be interesting to see how acurate the other gauges are compared to new ones. Thank you for the reply.

That's what I was planning until someone said the stock oil pressure gauge wasn't very good. I would rather install an oil temp gauge. Thanks for the reply.
The stock oil psi gauge is worthless, all it needs is 7 psi to read normal. I went coolant temp instead of oil temp. Both have their good points to have, I find it more useful for me to have coolant, but I do understand the argument for the oil temp over coolant, still just prefer coolant.

Oh, you will be amazed at the differences in the stock and a/m tranny guage. It takes about 10-15 mins for the a/m guage to get over 100*. The stock one goes to operating temp before i move the the truck!
Preturbo pyrometer would be the first aftermarket gauge that I would install on a diesel... Not an after thought. It will give you the quickest most pertinent data to recognize problems and avoid damage to the most expensive part of your pickup. Tranny temp second and the rest are nice.....
I was told and not sure how true it is, that an oil pressure guage is not necessary because due to low or a loss of oil pressure the injectors will not fire and shut down the engine
