Well, my 79 f150 does not have dash lights....... Why in the world would ford make a truck with out instrument panel lights? it has a lighted heater control, and lighted wiper switch area.....Dumb.
Also, I replaced the headlight switch because it was making my lights flash and was shorting out. Well I installed the new one and drove around, and All was good. Took it out on the road, and a few minutes later bam..... starts doing it again. You can actually hear it shorting inside of the switch. Whats up with this? A bad switch or is somthing else up here?
yeah they have lights. you need probably 10 or 12 194 bulbs to make them all work. Pull your instrument cluster and look at the back. You will see the black twist lock bulb holders. If bulbs dont fix the problem you might have a bad printed circuit.
I pulled the cluster.......it has no illumination lights.... The board is printed for them, but the holes in the cluster are not there.
Can you post a picture of the back of your cluster? I have never seen a cluster with no holes for the bulb sockets.
As for your headlight switch it sounds like you have a problem that is shorting out the switch. I would check your wiring for fraying and grounding out.
I had a new F-350 in '79 that had the no holes for dash lights problem, the dealership replaced the cluster under warranty. I've had the headlights flashing thing too on another Ford and that turned out to be a bad dimmer switch.
