I was driving the other day and the engine started to tick(90 f-250 7.3). It sounded like the fan was hitting something from inside the cab. When I checked under the hood, the sound appears to be emminating from passenger side front. I am now getting smoke under load and rough running all around. I threw a new fuel pump in with no change. Any ideas where to look next? Thanks
Injector noise-missfire. Are you using a fuel lubricant additive. If not give it a double or tripple dose, see if things improve. If not you are likely looking at replacing injectors.
I've been reading about the HIMAC pcv jar and was wondering what is the thinking on its performance now. I have a 1987 I6 f150 4x4 four speed and a 1981 Jeep J-10 258 I6.
How many miles on the engine....... could be a rocker assy is worn out. Remove the valve cover and check for sloppy rockers.......bent or broken parts especially valve springs. When the cover is off post back with what you see......
Are you getting any loud wooof wooof in the intake or chuffing at the exhaust.
I have the same thing going on after driving on the HWY for about 10-15min. My Dad-in-law (Old diesel tech) says fuel filter, but it is engine speed dependant and slows/quiets down when I put the clutch in. I thought it might be fan/belt related as well but by the time I get to my house from the freeway the sound has gone away.
I have a bad lifter where the needles came out of the roller. Was quiet, coming and going, then louder. Now sounds like a rod knock. I would suspect valvetrain.
Good thing I have spare motor. Going to take turbo off tomorrow and see it first hand. When the pushrod suctions to the lifter I can pull the lifter up and hear funny sounds.
Well the valve cover came off to reveal a spring sitting sideways and a valve guide in a couple of pieces. I don't expect I am going to be able to replace the guide easily?
