The AC should come on with the defroster, but not with the heater.

I do believe that you will find that the only switch position that the AC does NOT cycle is in the Panel position.

The compressor will be on when the switch is in any position but panel. It will be on when in the heat mode.
It sounds like your blend door is broken.

Actually, FLOOR, PANEL, and OFF. See the Owner's manual.

I concur, when all else fails-read the manual.

"Actually, FLOOR, PANEL, and OFF. See the Owner's manual"

Note any possible confusion w/the 'PANEL & FLOOR' position, where AC can run. Only the FLOOR or PANEL positions provide heated air w/o AC. Then cab heat is adjusted by mixing in fresh outside air in FLOOR or PANEL-the heater core should circulate hot coolant whenever the motor runs. The other positions mix heat & AC.

I believe there's also a low temp limit switch that cuts out AC below a certain temp.

Try switching the temp **** for the fan ****. The ***** tend to crack and split, then spin on the temp control shaft. Results in the temp not actually changing. if this doesn't help then go for the blend door. Good luck!

first feel the heater hoses at the fire wall and make sure they are hot and fluid is moving, then look at the switch, then the blend door
