heres something to look for when ya change fuel filters.notice the 3 round spots on the plate about the size of a dime that the heater is mounted to. they all 3 came off and beat a 3/8" hole in my housing $350 for new housing and hoses.
stand off woulda been much cheaper if i had caught in time.just hoping to save some one else some greif and cabbage.thanks for all the help
just drove it after getting it back together clutch slipped.had to drive it about 3/4 mile to get home when leak started the clutch slipped a little as i pulled in the drive.that was 2 weeks ago i was hoping it would dry out on its own.what do i need to do? i just put in brand new clutch and dual mass flywheel (ouch)3 months ago less than 700 miles please tell me it is not ruined. what can i do?
the hole is large enuf to put a 3/8" bolt in and there are 2 more places it damaged but didnt go all the way thru the housing. do you think jb weld will work on a hole that large?
Just got a new fuel heater from ford and one of the three was already loose. All three of the old ones were loose from the plate but still on the wire. Still had some pitting at the bottom of the housing. Yea, your right, its one thing everyone should look for whenever they got the filter out. If the hole in your housing is that big you might want to drill it and tap it for a plug.
I swapped the thin wire heater out for the heater used on the super dutys, only a couple dollars more expensive but your don't have the broken joint problems. Their is a small amout of grinding to do to make it fit.....But not bad. I've seen a writeup on here...I'll have to see if I can find it Oh, and the IH dealer was cheaper than ford

Is the hole where the wiring connection goes thru the housing? I can't picture the heater wire being able to make a hole that big unless it shorted and burnt it.....
Most of the time when the wire comes loose it shorts off the bottom of the filter blowing the fuse (#22?) and killing the power to the PCM
79_rangerlariat your exactky right
the hole is in bottom of housing.the heater shorted & blowed fuse 22 about a month before the leak i removed the heater & was running w/o it. I didnt notice the 3 round pieces that had came off they were apparently in the bottom of the bowl I believe that is what caused my hole.
my problem now is that my clutch got wet with fuel & is slipping a little
will it dry out or am i going to need a new clutch? it doesnt slip if i feather the accelerator.but there is no way i can tow like it is.any advice ?
take the acc. cover off on the bottom leave it off for now get some brake cleaner or carb cleaner and spray the pressure plate and everything else you can in there. oh ps wear a rain coat and goggles it might drip out. even take the starter out and spray in there if you have too. you might need more than one can you can also go to a car wash and use some degreaser or a pressure washer to spray in there but leave the cover off! you want that stuff to drain out and you will have to repeat to get the whole clutch a few times that should work had same problem on tractor trailer at work
