I would have to second the brake cleaner and some patience. Don't use carb cleaner though, it has a light lubricating oil that stays behind. You might be able to get someone to press the clutch pedal down while you spray to help the brake cleaner get in there. You will probably need several cans to do this, but remember to get all the vapors out of there before you hit the starter, otherwise you just made a bomb.
