i notice shorter glow plug times but also notice truck not ideling as rough if not plugged in and i get heat a lot faster when plugged in. i use synt. rotella. and plug in on cold nights for about 4 hours before i leave in the morn. would highly recommend pluggin in if you live somewere where it gets cold at night
ditto
I like the fact I can get the heater going alot faster, so does my woman...she won't come out and get in until it's warm enough so now I can plug it in at night and then remote start and remote idle up and were o.t.r. in less then 5.
NOt on your life!! there is no good fishing anywhere in SC. Not after you've been fishing here.
There's no good fishing ANYWHERE compared to Alaska! I'm down here in Sunny So. California stuck scratching the bottom for a 20lb. halibut.....nothing compared to "buts" in Alaska.
I'm Air Force. Stationed at Clear Air Force Base and live in North Pole.
21 years Navy, Stationed NAS Whidbey Island. Used to do Touch & Go's in Beaufort. When I was in Jax Fl. My CO turned me onto this site. As far as the block heater, I guess I was expecting to much out of it
Yesterday I didnt plug my truck in, was +7F when I started the truck, let it idle for 10 minutes before I left for work. It chugged and sputtered for about a half mile before it finally got going good. Last night I plugged it in, was the same temp this morning, ran for 5 minutes and was blowing warm air out the heater...

Yeah, the block heater is not intended to actually get the block & all of the fluids warm. It just attempts to keep things warmer than the ambient outside temperature.
Keep in mind that it takes an exponentially increasing amount of energy to maintain a given temperature as the surrounding ambient temperature grows colder. As such, the block heater will have more benefit at 20*F than at -20*F. Not saying that the block heater's use in sub-zero temperatures is to be dismissed...just that it will not keep the engine block & fluids at the same temperature across such a wide ambient temperature range.

I dont disagree one bit. I've fished this whole state and it sucks something fierce. I'd love to go to Alaska though. The wife dont like cold weather. Gonna suck for her when i get somewhere below zero LOL.
Navy comes up here alot. They operate P-3 sub chasers from Alaska 6 months our of the year. Thats when the ice cap gets bigger and China and Russia like to bring subs in close.

I was stationed with a P3 squadron in Hawaii from 99-03. I loved every minute of it. You cant beat the per diem. If those subs are out there you can bet those boys will find them and let them know we're there watching.
