well...

guys i hate to say it, but i am very scared about buying a powerstroke. i visited my dealer on wednesday, and talked with them about the 6.0's and the new 6.4's. to shorten it up, they are two weeks out on repairing the diesels. most are 6.4's some are 6.0's and all thei loaner diesels are out...once one comes in another person takes it out...he said its appearing the 6.4's are getting worse with age. he did say the 06-07 6.0's were alot better but still are having some issues. he actually recommended "until they figure this stuff out, id go with a cummins or duramax... Ford has their own diesel comin out in 2010. so a year or so after that we'll be able to tell if their goin to get everything worked out". so i now dont know what to do. Im very tempted to just go find an older ford with the 7.3. people have confidence in those. but i just dont want to go older. i currently have an 05, and dont want to go back in time. that would make me feel like a failiar...so anyways. any opinions would help. the f-150's tow 10k right? maybe i should get one of those...

Fwiw, I was in a cummins forum a couple of months ago, and they told me to avoid the 6.7 unless you tow or haul for long periods everyday to keep the dpf from clogging. If you don't actually need a diesel, the V10 sounds like a pretty reliable option.

So a dealer knowing you only tow 10K did not even bring up the topic of a v10? How often do you tow?

I work at a Ford Dealer, and we haven't seen many 6.0L or 6.4L in a while. I was talking to the diesel tech and he said that Ford finally figured out the 6.0 and that the 6.4 was turning out to be a good engine. The only problem was cel caused by after market air filter, and a cracked dpf. So going by what I have seen, they are turning out to be a good engine.

I had a 2005 6.0 and never had a problem and great fuel mileage. My 08 only has 400 miles on it but so far so good. I think there are problems with all manufacturer's one time or another. My dealer says the 6.4 has seen very few problems so far.

Sounds like you need a new dealer. There are not any more problems with the 6.4 as there are with the new Cummins or Duramax. They all do and will have a few problems, and every manufacturer will put out a lemon now and then.

I love my Truck! I have owned a 2002 F350 7.3 Diesel, and an Excursion with the 6.0 Diesel before I bought my 2008 F350 DRW. The 08 is the BEST truck I bought so far. I have over 7,000 miles on my truck and it has performed great so far. Life is too short to wait. Go for it!

As far as the 6.4 goes, just look at my post titled something like "just drove the 08 ambulance again" in the general diesel forum.

I'm pretty sure that nobody here drives thier truck like we do our 08 and we've had 0 problems.

The 6.0 on the other hand has been a POS for us.

I'd have absolutely no problems buying the 6.4. (Then ditching the cat, DPF, and adding a tuner)

Mike

funny..... I visit alot of different dealers across the mid atlantic and not one that I have talked to said they have problems with the 6.4. Interesting though how people who prefer Chevy or Dodge always seem to find a 6.4 with problems........

Funny you mention a ambulance because when my 08 was in the dealer a ambulance was in the bay nexy to mine with a bad engine! But to be honest I am not sure if it was a 6.0 or a 6.4. So far the engine seems ok. It is all the other things that are bad
The fuel milage, the regen program,my Hubs,Keyless entry pad, Radiator, rear end,
Air filter pluging up,ETC. I have almost 13,000 on mine and had these problems and more. But the engine does seem OK so far. Most of my problems started after 10,000 miles. Oh by the way I would not **** on a dodge or chevy if it was on fire!!!!!!!!!
