The dealer here in Florida and my dealer at home both indicated that they are having far less problems with the 6.4 than with the 6.0. My 6.4 had a cracked DPF and we were told that Ford had a batch of bad ones early on. It ran really bad before but now runs much better. We pull a 12K plus 5th wheel all over the country and we have no complaints about the new 08's. We have had 3 Fords and 3 GM trucks over the years and they all did a good job.
i work at a ford dealer and in the past two months only 2 6.4's came in with problems and they were both simple and have not be back since. i have not talked to a person yet that has a bad thing to say about there 08 superduty
Here at our local dealer they have had one 6.4 engine issue, it was a camshaft that apparently never was polished correctly. Ford replaced the engine.
There has been trucks through the shop with 20,000 to 35,000 miles in for routine maintance that have had no issues. This is a far cry from when the 6.0 was day viewed in 03. I say hats off to ford and international.
Something is stinky about this post. Dodge has had a bunch of problems with their 2008s and the DPF, and like someone said, I've also heard that Ford was experiencing only few issues with the 6.4's. I cannot imagine any Ford dealer or sales person telling anyone this kind of information anyhow. Do yourself a favor and read up on a bunch of the forums for Dodge, Ford and Chev...you'll find their are a few problems with all of them. I for sure can say that Ford isn't the worst of them all. Ultimately, buy what you like and wish for the best. FYI, I've never had a problem with either of my Fords...ever. Best wishes to you in your decision.
I have my 08 Sd PSD Crew Cab for 3 months and 5100 miles. No problems and it drives like a Cadillac. This is one great truck. Not one problem. Mileage is not an issue as I had a Hummer H2 and it got worse mpg and in 36k I had to repair the tranny twice. The mpg of this truck is about 30% better than the H2 and it is ten times the truck. I love this truck.
