ok i got some extra money and i just finished fixing the massive wireing problems my truck came with so im on to getting the tranny fixed. probably going to buy a new one. have a local place can order me a new c6 for $550 or so. anyway is there anything special i need to keep in mind when removing the tranny? are the engine mounts going to hold the engine in place or do i have to tie it off? i have done this many times with very small japanese cars but nothing this big or on a ford. i dont imagine it will be much different just bigger, but i thought i would chek before i do something dumb
I would cover/pad the fenders up by the firewall and place a 2X4 across and wire it up from the 2 lift attachments.......... just don't need the fan going into the rad when it drops. You could also block the adapter plate up.....
If you want C6 removal instructions I have them email me if you want them 2 pages.
when i did the trans in my 88, i supported the engine with a bottle jack on a 4X4 on the rear of the oil pan to relieve pressure off the trans mount, then used the trans jack to remove the trans. it kept the engine solid for reinstall also.
you dont have to support the engine the mounts will support it , also will not hit the radiator or the fan shroud , just support the trans to remove the crossmember and trans removal is simple i have performed R&R on hundreds od these
