Hi all. I tried to adjust the fuel / air mixture screw on my 84 with a 1 barrel carb. I screwed the mixture screw in all the way, and nothing happened. I was told the motor should have bogged down, but nothing. The screw I turned was on the carb, on the lower left side (as you look at the motor). I did not have to take the air cleaner housing off to get to it. I'm sure I got the right one. Any help?
Thanks
Walter
If the idle speed is too high, the idle mixture screw will have no effect as the carb will be running off of the main circuit. Another possibility would be a vacuum leak in the carb itself.
Thanks for the advice. I'll see what the idle is at. Also, someone told me to try to remove the screw all the way & spray carb cleaner in it. Said it might be clogged.
The only problem I've had with my carb so far is the screws that held the two piece carb body together were loose. I noticed the engine idling poorly, and I grabbed the air cleaner and wiggled it. The top of the carb was moving. So I took the carb off, turned it upside down and tightened the torx screws underneath.
The carb gasket was slightly torn after I lifted the carb, but I just smeared a little silicone that was compatible with an O 2 sensor on it, and it works fine now.

Although not likely, it is possible that your carb could still be in original condition. From your description it sounds like you've found the right screw. Is is down low on the (Passenger) side of the carb near the manifold? When I had mine it had a tamper proof cover on it that had to be removed before I could adjust it.
Thanks for the conformation Trail. It sems that it is an original carb. I know it is a motorcraft, which leans me to the original. I think it might be time for a new one though. Thanks for the help
