i have headr that the split shots out of a stock 99.5+ dont make a big diff in our trucks. with supertuner on 90, air intake, dp, straight pipe exhaust, would it be worth the trouble to put a variant of the 10k, 140 idm, and split shots in my 97? would i notice a help in the power? how big?
TJ has ADs in his which are splits. You wouldn't notice alot but an improvement yes. Many have done this it does help, problem is the actual full charge of fuel is slightly retarded due to the pilot shot first. You will als be required to upgrade to a 17* hpop due to th eincreaced demand for oil to make the splits work.If you can get them cheap it will work but if your paying more than a couple hundred bucks your better off just upgrade to stage Is or IIs.
Yes it will make more power at a cost. (oil shortage).
Its the same reason why lets say a 97 49 state will make less power than a 97 cali chipped. The cali has AB splits. The AB are smaller than the AD. AB are larger than AA singles. Splits use more oil to drive them. Reason for OEM 17* pump. Hot tunes the pump cannot keep up with the demand.
Don't waste your time or money on AD's! The only reason I can say to get some AD's is to put in the truck while you building a set of DIY stage 1's if you can't have the truck down for a few days/a week.
The Splits were in my truck when I bought it so I can't compare well but unless you burn a chip for the AD's then you won't find much difference. Singles shots create more power, better fuel mileage, and use less HP oil. With my chip in the 70hp position I could set a CEL at will for Low ICP. And when I installed the 17* pump I could feel a difference in the mid and top end.
