I just looked at the Clifford Catalog and it says that the 270 deg. camshaft doesn't fit with Power steering, power brakes or air conditioning. Is this true???? I don't have air, but I do have p/s and p/b and I'd like to keep 'em both! Has anyone ever installed a clifford 270 deg. cam on their 300??? What's involved in installing it? and can you keep the power brakes and steering? Thanks for any help!
Call 'em up and get the 270-EFI cam; it's ground on a wider lobe center, which supposedly provides more vacuum for vacuum-operated emissions equipment...and, oh yeah, brakes!
LAST EDITED ON 04-Feb-01 AT 03:21 AM (EST)[p]I have one in my 300 and its is one of the best things I did to the engine. Gives it a meaner exhaust tone and kicks in at about 2300 RPM. AND i have had NO...repeat...NO probs with vacuum, AC(which I dont use), and Power Steering. If you know much about rebuilding an engine its just like installing the stock cam but you will have to get your head set up to the cam since it is self adjusting and to set clearances. I would do it! I wold also suggest the HD valve set they sell. That is a good one!
AND O yeah Eddie!....IF YOU HAVE THAT CAM CARD, I NEED THE #'S OFF IT! I am rebuilding my 300 and getting the head ported and need to have it for the machine shop...so maybe you can mail/fax me a copy of it when/if you get/have it? That would help me out LOTS! But come to think of it...you have the EFI cam...dont think that would be the same....O well thanks anyways!
let me know how those lifters work. I've heard they are pretty good. They're supposed to increase the torque at lower rpm's. I was thinking of getting a set for mine when I did the cam swap but wasn't sure it they worked as well as they say they do. Come to think of it I think I'm going to post a thread on this.
Yeah...let me know the $$$ of the lifers..I saw thoes in my catalog for Clifford (where i bet the price is...haha) and now that i got my 300 in 300 pieces i might just give it a go. Got the Cilfford push rods, spring kit and cam...might try to get this 300 where i want it. So far so good...just think i can do better.
If I had a ground-up motor like you're doing, I think I'd give Crane Cams a call and beg, whine, plead, moan, get out the Vaseline, and have them make up a custom hydraulic-roller cam for me.
I've seen one done, and the lifter bodies themselves are the same height and diameter as the 5.0L pieces; the only difference is in the bridging-plate spacing each intake/exhaust roller lifter pair apart.
The shape of the lobe itself is almost square, rather than triangular because the rollerized lobe is able accelerate the opening/closing events so much.
Combine that with roller rockers, and you'd have something!
As to "how much" the Rhoads Lifters are...a demented 300-6 sicko gave them to me; this is the same disturbed individual who had the custom Crane roller done and who's ported a 300 head so big that he can't find manifolds/headers to fit!
I'm collecting parts to do the cam swap now; I'm going to pull the radiator to do it, so I want to do do a complete cooling system R&R while I'm at it.
I've also got to get a bronze distributor drive gear from Clifford, I just saw the "fine print"!
