I have a 1977 F-150 two wheel drive. I want to convert it to manual steering. Does anyone know if this is possible? If so any information would be very helpful.
If you want to go back to manual steering , Youll have to find a manual steering gearbox , remove the current gear box , the ps pump , belt & all the associated hardware . There really shouldnt be any reason why you cant repair the leaks you have . I know a few of the guys here have replaced various seals in the gear boxes with success . Same goes for replacing the pump
You know at the same time I am trying to convert my 77' F100 to power steering and cannot find a steering column. So the logical question is, what are you going to do with yours if you switch?
Its a direct bolt up. All you have to do is find a manual gearbox (which I might know one is) and bolt it up. That simple. I converted one from man to power and we did it in an after noon ...that involved cutting the Pump bracket to fit the current motor....but its a cake walk if you can find the box. But I feel your pain with the never ending leaks...but I just put up with it....wish they put a little more time into the set up...its noisy, leaks...and lets see....LEAKES! But I have mine tamed for now........haha....
