Ive been driving the truck i bought know for about 1 month and love it,well except the gas mileage.I noticed that when i shut it of after running it awhile that i get a hissing sound under the hood somewere and cant seem to locate it.seems to be up near the firewall somewere and it stops after about 5 or 6 seconds does anyone know what this is or should i not even worry about it .thanks
It could be just a normal noise , My 300 has made the same noise when I shut it off for the last 10 yrs . The charcoal canister also makes a noise when the engine is shut off that sounds like a rattling noise , thats just the check valve making the noise & its normal
Are you running the AC at all. My AC did the same thing. I was told by several mechanics this is normal for the truck. Next time listen by the AC compressor and see if the sound is coming from there.
matt, short of killing the cobra, check to see if your ac is on or if the defroster is on. either setting can cause the ac compressor to cycle. you will be pressurising the system while driving. also see if you have a small unit an the top side of fenderwell on passenger side. it looks like a fan setup, and it runs after you shut off engine( at least on my 88, anyway). it ventilates the fuel intake somehow . mine will run for a short time after shutting engine off.
