heater problem

hey guys i really need help have a 3.8 engine with 120,000 miles on it runs great but temp starts to rise and the heater goes cold step on the gas the temp starts to go down and the heater gets warmer any ideas cold a intake gasket leaking do that or a head gasket thanks for any info

How about some punctuation there fella?

Is it the engine temp that rises and falls opposite the heater temp? Maybe the cooling system is plugging up. When was the last time you flushed it?

make model and year of rig?
what type of service has been done on cooling/heating system?

lots of possibilities
low coolant level
air blockage in coolant
defective thermostat
defective water pump
slipping water pump belt
ad nasuem

First pop the COLD radiator cap off and see if there is any fluid in there and we can go from there. Answering some of 96's and VanGo's questions would help.
