would this carb work?

my truck needs a new carb because the one on it is hard to get parts for. So I want to upgrade. I found a holley on summitracing and was wondering if it would work, it has non adjustable floats or is that a bad thing?

Superior performance and drivability in a "Bolt on and Go" performance package.
Here at last from Holley are the new and improved 4160 model 4-barrel carburetors. These carburetors are equipped with Holley's all-new Tru-Set needle and seats, which have eliminated the need for external adjustments. This change allows for easier "Bolt on and Go" performance. The floats have been factory-set for optimum fuel levels at 3 to 6 psi of fuel pressure, and should never need adjustment. If running over 6 psi of fuel, a fuel regulator is required. These carburetors also include a new, refined appearance on their float bowls, main bodies, and vacuum secondary caps. Along with having upgraded choke caps for smoother engine warmup and better cold drivability, these carbs are also the perfect upgrade for any ride.

I'm running a factory fuel setup, with a 390, is that more than 6 psi as mentioned above or should I be looking at a different carb entirely? Also would this be a good time to swap the manifold and if so which one?

BTW, I am not running a high performance setup.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

What 4bbl do you have on there now? I used the new holley's when they came first came out last year with the non adjustable floats. THEY SUCK! I ended up getting a reman edelbrock for 199.00 from jegs and haven't looked back.

I'm not sure what's on it now? Do you think edelbrock is better than holley? Also, which edelbrock did you pick up?

I have run holley for many years but after switching to the edelbrock i won't go back.No power valves , easy tuning and no gaskets to leak below the fuel bowl. I picked up a 600 cfm manual choke reman carb from jegs for 199.99.

to each his own, i have had both holley and Edelbrock and cant really tell a diff. both worked both got my truck to run, some cars holleys are better (Pantara) some Edelbrocks but these trucks i think both work just fine. if you have an eldelbrock intake it might be better to use an edelbrock just because they are built to work good with each other. as for the non adjustable floats, i have never done or heard of someone adjusting floats, so.... well good luck

IMO an electric choke is well worth the extra $$$$$... Beats the heck out of messing with a manual choke and cable all the time... Both Holley and Edelbrock electric chokes work great!

For what it's worth, I've had no trouble with my Holley carbs. I've been running an old manual choked 600cfm 4160 for ten or eleven years on my 390. If I were you, I'd get the HHollry 0-80457S. It comes with the Ford transmission kickdown.

I was just reading on jegs website and it said for the 0-80457S , comes with kickdown for ford 65-69. So since mine is a 70 do I still need it?

As original = all 1965/74 Ford F100/350's with 352/360 or 390 engines only came with 2 barrel carbs.

1975/76 F100/350's came with 2 barrels as standard equipment, 4 barrel carbs were optional on 1975/76 390's only.

If you've got a C6 with a kickdown rod, that carb will make the swap a lot easier.

Pretty sure I read in the Jeg's catalog that my '72 390 (was a 360, but who knows?),came with the optional 4 bbl. So I have one on it with no probs, and it has passed several smog stations over the yrs. It is a Holley, and I have changed the jets to make it run as good as it can. If this truck had an automatic trans it would be faster than my '05 5.4. The F100 4WD is stock, except for the carb, headers, cam, and intake mani, ignition, ram air, Holley fuel pump. The "fun to drive ratio" is about the same for both trucks.
