a drunkin cement truck driver hit a compact with a mom and dad and three kids, all died, the truck pushed the car 1200 feet, and another young driver crashed his car at 80 mph and killed three of his friends and crippled the forth one . He is fine physically, but imagine living with that.
Around here there are a lot of DWI lawyer commercials that have started up recently. It talks about how they can try to reduce your sentence, cancel your case, get you your license back...it makes me really, really angry because all they are doing is helping people get back on the road who SHOULDN'T be on the road in the first place. The law tries to punish them for a reason. Drunk drivers are the lowest of the low. If you get caught driving drunk, you should lose your license permanently. Hey jake00, I agree with you completely.

happens everyday and all day, politics, defense lawyers for dui cases, almost always never get the full punishment, and if ya know the judge (lawyer), prohbation, community service is what you will get.
this past sunday my son was involved in a dwi accident. He was struck from behind by a woman driving a foreign SUV. He was in a pizza delivery toyota corolla. the toyota bumper is now in the back seat. the woman driving the suv could hardly walk she was so drunk. The good thing is my son isnt seriously hurt but it could have been alot worse.. It seems i hear of one of these kind of things each day
frankly if they would nail everyone to the wall who does this kind of thing ( particularly celebs and famous ***** like paris hilton) joe blow would think twice perhaps before they do it and if there was truth in sentencing laws ( one year equals 365 days not three months) that would also help
My brother in law was just released from prison for DUI #4. Thought maybe he had learned his lesson. I think in part he may have, but the part about 'here's the rules you need to follow now that you are out' he's not followed.
New Mexico requires ignition interlock devices for all DUI offenders before they are allowed to drive again. Penalty times increase with each offense, etc. The day after he was released, he was driving...no interlock, no license. He and I are going to have a very personal talk very soon.
Below is a link to my (ex) brother in laws (not the same one) web site. It is not meant to be a endorsement of his business but he has posted a picture of my niece who was killed by a drunk this past June. She was a Mom and was pregnant at the time of her death. What is it going to take to stop people from drinking and driving? I don't know but I wish it would stop...
I just dont understand why its so hard to know when too much is too much. I cannot say i havent gone to the bar after work, had a couple beers and then not driven home. However, i can say that i have a LOT more to drink when the wife is there to drive home. I know where my limit is, and pretty much, if im 'feelin' good', its time to get hooked up with the ice water and crackers for a while before driving out.
my neighbor back in athol mass was killed by a drunk driver, her mom was one of the co founders of M.A.D.D., and they named a bill after her, heidi wood bill.
my fear is getting t-boned by a drunk running a red light. But ive always told myself, if i get hit and if im abkl to goover to the other vehicle to see whythis just happened, and if that person is cocked, id probably end up losing it right there. thats also my fear. i have no tolerance for this s***.
this stuff erks me soo bad. i have know a few people that have been taken because of drunk driving, i agree if u kill some one it should be murder 1.
if ive had more than two i don't drive at all. no if ands or buts. and i don't let my friends drive ever.
My EX g/f (note the big EX) is a 3 time DUI offender. The first two times she got nothing more than probation, a fine and some community service. The third time she was sentenced to 7 days, walked into the jail and back out 10 minutes later.
The thing is with her, she is a serious alcoholic. I know she knows drinking and driving is wrong, but nothing will over ride that need to have more booze. And when you're drunk, what is right and wrong goes right out the window.
I don't know what the solution is. Stiffer fines and jail times are one. There have been talks here in Oregon (long time ago) about putting a big red flag on the ID's of DUI offenders and not allowing them to purchase alcohol. I doubt that would work well, someone will buy it for them. The breathalyzer interlock can work, but it has to be designed in such a way to make it way harder to defeat.
The big thing lately has been lowering the allowed blood alcohol level. This is feel good legislation if I've ever seen any. .08, .06, .04. Whatever, it's the ones who are driving on .28 (what my ex blew on her last offense) that are causing the problems.
Things definitely need to be done. Unfortunately, solutions are never as easy to come by as they seem.
my fear is getting t-boned by a drunk running a red light.
My oldest son was T-boned by a drunk driver, in 2000.
His '93 Chevy Beretta GT was in showroom condition. We had literally just gotten the car out of the shop. (Had a new engine put in it!) That engine didn't have 250 miles on it.
The drunk driver that hit my son was driving down the sidewalk, and my son was turning into a fast-food joint.
The Beretta GT wound up looking like a "C".
The passenger seat was pushed over to the driver's side, the aluminum rims were broken at the hubs (all 4).
The car hit a telephone pole and spun around it and down an embankment.
Literally. . . the ONLY three parts of the car that weren't destroyed were the driver's seat, the driver's door, and the engine compartment.
My son walked away from that accident. The Anne Arundel County (MD) Police Dept. couldn't believe it!
My son was S O R E for a couple of months, and had bruises from the seat belt and shoulder harness, but, he walked away from that car.
The police locked up the drunk driver. He was driving his g/f's car, and driving w/o a license.
It was the drunk driver's THIRD conviction.
He got 3 years PROBATION and 6 months behind bars.
IMNSHO. . .if you get caught driving while drunk. . . just like the Monopoly game:
Go to Jail. Do NOT pass "Go." Do NOT collect $200.
IF you kill someone. . . I believe you should FRY.
