Question 1948 F1 pinion angle question....

I have "mocked" the 9in above the leaf springs in the rear. The pinion angle is all hosed up...for lack of better words! I have to wait until the engine and tranny are installed before I can correctly measure the pinion angle...correct? Also, with the rear end mounted above the leaf springs, the shock with the mounting in the pic looks to be a bit too angled. At what angle will the shock lose it's dampening ability? Will post more pics as time goes on......thanks in advance.

It looks like you have already ground the welds off on the saddles. Yes? Once you get the chassis with the engine in position you will need to adjust the positioning of the pinion angle on the rear and then rewelding the saddles on the rear . I had to do the same to my 9 inch after reversing the eyes and removing leaves. I also relocated the shock brackets on both the rear and on the frame and went to a shorter shock.

If you're planning on mounting the axle on top the springs you're going to have to C notch the frame for suspension travel or it will bottom on even small bumps. Each mod made snowballs what else is affected. Shocks don't work very well mounted much more than 30* from vertical. After 45* they pretty much don't move at all and will likely bend the shafts. There are much better ways to lower the rear.

I have c-notches...just have to install them. I just wanted to mock the rear to see exactly what I have left to do to it. I will wait until the tranny and engine are in before rewelding saddles. Also will cut shock mounts on the axle and move them as well as the ones on the frame. (easier said than done). Thanks, guys, for the help.
