tranny questions

I currently have a 1964 F100 223ci I6 w/3spd. I travel roughly 80 to 90 mils a day so would love a automatic or even better an AOD. Are the flywheel mounting bolts the same as on a 240 or 300? I do have a freshly rebuildt C4 sitting in my shopwanting to go in there but willit fit? Fit not in the sense of space but flywheel options and bell housing mounting. Also I want to swap my front drums to disc. Which spindles can I use? On my '66 F100 I stole the front spindles from my old '74 F100 worked great. Can I do the same for my '64? I want to keep the straiht axle and leafs bc the truckliterally rides like a cadillac and I love its ride so much. Any help that any one can give would be greatly appreciated. And have a Merry Christmas.

Basically no to all of your questions. There is a huge divide at the 64-65 year change. In 65 you enter the modern age with many more bolt up exchange items that were not available prior.

For brakes you will need a aftermarket kit.

No Limit Engineering has the most complete.

ECIs is not so complete.

And no adaptors exist to adapt a modern C4 or AOD to a 223 six. A V8 292 yes but six no.

your best bet is to go with a 5 speed out of a mustang and the t-5 adapter from juhn mummert. trade that c-4 for a t-5 out of a 94-95 mustang with a v-8 and call up john mummert and order up his t-5 adapter plate kit. you need the 94-95 t-5 cause the imput shaft is longer and the truck bellhousing is deeper than a car bellhousing. the only thing you will run into a problem with is the tailshaft omn the t-5. the shifter is in the wrong place. from my understanding, a s-10 tailshaft puts the shifter in the correct spot.

1961/64 F100/350's with the 223 engine came with an automatic as an option = the FX or MX Cruise-O-Matic.

Find one of those set ups for a 223 with the same wheelbase as yours, and you're all set. If a different wheelbase, the driveshaft will have to be modified.

The 1958/64 Big Ford passenger cars with 223's also used the same transmission, but to use it in a pickup will require your present driveshaft(s) to be modified.
