300 or 390?

ok guysheres the scoop i have 2 trucks. on is a 89 150 short bed, perfect body had a 300 but it blew up now has no motor, has the 5spd tranny(mazda), on the other hand i have a 76 POS with a 390 that runs but is weak and every seal on it leaks, and the tranny is almost done i think. my question is which would i be better to sink money into? im open to almost any ideas so please fire away!

I'd rebuild that 390 and the C6 and drop it in the 89. Just my opinion though

I am an avid fan of the 300. There are alot of upgrades you can do, check out this site under the I6 forum and www.fordsix.com Those guys are great help and can help you produce a hard hauling, dependable ride. Love the 390's but I am thinking economy

I would go for rebuilding the 300 because of its better economy.

I'd rebuild the 300. It's a fine engine and pretty bulletproof if you're responsible with it and do the rebuild right.

C6 isn't overdrive, so you'll only have 3 speeds and with a 390 that's not exactly an economy rig. The 390 would probably give you more scoot top end but it surely weighs a ton more. You'd probably have to upgrade the front suspension with F-250+ HD parts to carry the extra load up front.

The user terms of this site forbid directing people to other similar forums using the services of this site...that means not on the boards and not in PMs. If you'd like to share that info, exchange email addys with the people you'd like to tell. Remember, FTE is a business and you don't go moving your customers to a competitor.

390. There is no replacement for displacement.

I would agree if they were both V8's, but they're not.

I look at cubes per hole, and well the 300 divided by 6 equal 50 cubes per hole and 390 diveded by 8 equal 48.75.
