roflmao. I think this thread got Hi-Jacked. Hey, any of you guys have a good water pump for John? If I had one, I'd send it.
If the thread has been hi-jacked, I might as well hi-jack it some more.
The decision to use the 337 flatty in 1949/51 Lincolns was a (wise) last minute cost cutting move.
Originally these Lincolns were to use an enlarged version of the 1936/48 V12 engine originally installed in Lincoln Zephyrs and 1940/48 Continentals.
Ernie Breech, the Prez of FoMoCo back then, decided to scrap the plans to modify the V12, and use the new truck engine instead.
Wise move. The V12's were an oil burning turd of an engine from day one. The crappy V12's were a major reason why ppl converted their Continentals to myriad other engines, including 1949/53 flatties, Olds and Caddy OHV V8's.
In the 1950's, these Continental's were the hottest selling classic cars around...and unlike today, it made no difference back then what engine was under the hood. ANYTHING was better than that V12.
btw: Tired of shifting?
While the 1949 Lincolns used the Borg-Warner overdrive transmission...Hydra-Matic was an option in 1950 & 1951. Lincolns used Hydra-Matic thru 1955.

not to hijack it again but over on osr there is a guy who is contemplating either turbo-ing or supercharging , including a one off cam the 337 in his metropolitan . needless to say i am awaiting to see the results . they're trying to talk him outta the turbo due to excess heat / cracking the valve seats .
