They should all be the same I know on the 6.0l they are more detuned but the 7.3 is the same besides emission stuff. And all that is, is a cat. converter. Easy to remove. If it wasn't already.

the cali 7.3's use a glow plug control module (as to X's with 7.3's) that is tied to the PCM and can diagnose faulty glow plugs. the other 7.3's use a simple relay for the glow plugs.

they also have "SPECIAL" injectors with a supposedly better dispersal pattern and better flow, or so my ford book says.

They may or may not have a cat conv, but that is GVW rated and selling dealer related.

You can register any road legal rig in Ca if it has all the equitment it came with from the factory...

The injectors on the SD trucks are all the same from late 99 to the end at 03... AD's with a AE LL injector on #8... No other differance other then the tuning and the GPC...

thanks for the replies, don't mean to sound ignorant, but what is the AD and tuning and GPC?

AD are the type of injectors, they came in all 7.3's from 99.5 to 03's. All 7.3's from 99.5 on had a AE injector in the #8 hole, this was Fords fix for a poor fuel system which caused an idle knock, AE is a LONG LEAD injector.

GPC is a Glow Plug Controller, an expensive little bugger that Cali and excursions had... Takes the place of a cheaper GPR. Glow Plug Relay

Thats because it doesnt exist...

The only year that had anything "really" differant was the 97 cali trucks, they had splitshot injectors, rather then everyone else having the last year of single shots.

Ford factory service manual workshop, group 3 powertrain (aka big damn expensive green book ford has in the shop)

page 303-04C-5, 303-04C-6, item # 16 FPN 9F593 Calif fuel injector (rate shape)
Identification #14 ref # 13 CA ident only yellow clip

also referring to item 11, spill control port (ca only) (part of 9E527)

apparently, (although I cannot find the @#$^&* ) reference the difference is they modified the tip and spill control port. Ford claimed it flowed better and didn't drip bypass fuel somewhere into the cylinder when I had one of the vapid things (#8) replaced under warranty, and CA EPA says it reduced emissions when Ford couldn't/wouldn't install P/n 9E527 in LA APCD.

They also come in LL style of #8 clicky injector noise supression. the picture above shows the yellow clip identifier.

Yes it is... and a nice shot of the AB injectors that come in a early 99... Someone added the LL to your truck at a later date as they did not come in the early 99's unless someone complaned about the noise. Also the two injectors I see are remans... Hence the R on the top...
