Mudd Flaps and Lifted Trucks

Guys-

It seems the good ol CHP here in CA decided to site me for no mudd flaps on my truck. I have an 06 F250, 6in Lift, 325/60/20 Toyo OC's on it. I have looked at Dayco and Husky, I am a show me guy. I can't picture it unless I can see it. Do any of you have lifted trucks with either on them that would mind posting a pic so I can see them? It would be greatly appreciated.....

I bought the truck this way and I was going to go bark at the dealer since it was sold in violation but didn't.

Thanks,

Tim

That's lame. Any kind of flap you put on is going to be ugly. do your tires stick out past the wheel well?

1 tread bar if that makes sense outside the fender well. I will end up putting fender flares on it later but thats some bucks painted.

If California is like IL you may want to think about making sure you get mud flaps that work with fender flares cause they will bust you for that next. In IL it is illegal for your tires to stick out past your fender, if they do you are supposed to put on flares. I have been told the cop will drop a coin, or string of the edge of your fender and if it hits the tire they can write you a ticket.

Most cops won't bother with stuff like that, but most won't bother writing tickets for mudflaps either.

Crap I guess i'd better stay out of your states then. Mine stick out about 2" past the front fenders and 1" past the rear.

Been down that road, know how you feel. AZ cops used to love to pull me over comin' out of the bar for that one (no flaps). My dad just recently got a ticket for having 35's on his chebby with no flaps, talk about lame... If you do a search in this forum for "mud flaps", you'll probably find numerous posting/pics of what guys have done with their trucks. I ended up putting on some removeable mud flaps from Superduty Headquarters in Gilbert, AZ (I lived out there for 30 years).

Good thing I got 'em cuz my truck wouldn't pass the lame inspections out here in PA without 'em!

i got a written warning from a state trooper off route 29 just outside of chillicothe on the mossville side, so not too far from your work, about 5 minutes

IL cops will mess with you, especially the state boys

Sounds like you must have met the same cop as my buddy from work. He got pulled over and got a ticket for no mudflaps, and was hasseled about no fender flares, and his lift. My buddy put mudflaps on, and looked up IL lift laws. Only thing we found was a max of 3" body lift, and some bumper and frame height laws. He met the height laws so he printed out the pages and kept driving.

Got pulled over again by the same cop and showed him the printouts, the cop said he was wrong and told him he had to get rid of the lift. Warned him again about the fender flares, and this time gave him trouble about his exhaust (stacks with no muffler).

My buddy installed a muffler to quiet the exhaust, and kept driving. Got pulled over again by the same cop and hassled about the lift and fender flares.

Now he just drives a different route to work. Every time he got pulled over it was right by the Route 6/Route 29 intersection and was the same cop.

if i drove by there and he hassled me i would hassle him and tell him to give me the ticket and i would challenge him in court for it. Drag him through all the court stuff just for him hassling.

I have been pulled over twice for no flaps but never ticketed. I think they use it for an excuse more than anything. My wife took my truck to the gym and got pulled over for that. The Cop told her that next time he will ticket. I still need to make the purchase just waiting for after x-mas.

Recommend Flaps and Flares

I recommend the flaps and flares (especially flares) if you plan on getting your truck dirty and not tear up your paint job with rocks. I have already thrown two nice size rocks up the side of my truck before I put the flares on. If you drop a quarter from the flares I have (check out my gallery), it hits the side wall of the wheels (315/75R16). I am going to get mud flap because I pull a boat with my little red mule and don’t want to tear it up with rocks or road derbies either. They are going to be the removable type. For the police, they need to focus their efforts more toward speeders and DUI then on oversize tires. I haven’t read a news article yet stating that oversize tires have ever caused an accident but speeders and drunks are killing them by the hundreds a month.

This is the reason I was getting pulled over, they were using my lack of mud flaps as a reason to pull me over coming out of the bar. I was designated driver everytime (and hadn't been drinking) yet they still wanted to give me the test!

Yeah, there but holes here in AZ. Any excuse to pull you over and look in your truck. They have to be as wide as the tread width and a minimum 8" from the ground.

beerstalker, it sounds liek the same guy

i asked to see the law and he let me read the book. i dont remember specifics but he was misinterpreting the law. i remember seeing the 3 inch body lift thing and thats all. he told me that my lift was illegal becaue i have bigger than a 3 inch block. i told him thats impossible because the f350s come from the factory with a 3.5 inch block. he did not know what to say. he gave me a written warning for lift and no mudflaps. he did not cite me for fender flares because i have stock rims and they really dont stick out. i was like 1.5 inches over the height in the front, and i watched him measure. He used my lack of seatbelt to pull me over and measure my truck.

luckily, i havent seen him since but i dont like having a lift violation on my record. that just means im that much more prone to have another one the next time i get pulled over and get measured. alot of the IL state cops are dicks, they have nothing better to do. the guy specifically told me he just got done in chilicothe busting another lifted truck and wrote him a ticket. i think he didnt give me a ticket because my rear was ok and i was only 1.5" over in front.

i agree, they need to focus on the drunks and criminals not lifted trucks, but hey the state can always use the funds from the rediculous amount of tickets.

while im ranting, just within the last month, the local police department, East Peoria, IL, wrote 2 tickets to 2 different elderly people for, get this, being over the white line at a stoplight. no warning, no nothing. when one guy went to the police department to discuss it, they told him to deal with it they were going to be *******s and write tickets for everything because of a new grant.

the EP police department also has a black intrepid with civilian plates-non marked no visible sirens. i dont know the legality of this it seems like a cheap shot when hes out giving tickets.

sorry for the rant, cops get me going sometimes. the majority of them are dicks and i dont care what anyone says. im more than polite to every single one of them..yes sir, yes ma'am, no sir, etc.
