alrite my auto locking hubs arent working and i cant find out what my problem is... i tried turning the ac on and then turning on to 4hi and it doesnt change over to defrost so where do i look now thanks in advance
If the A/C is not switching to defrost then I would "think" that you have a vacuum leak. Does the 4x4 indicator light in the dash light up when you toggle the switch? Wondering if you don't have a blown fuse or a bad switch.
ive tried the test to see if i had a vacuum leak and it doesent switch over from ac to defrost
That's the prime indicator of a vacuum leak - a/c not switching over to defrost. Check vac hoses going to front hubs. Probably a cracked or broken hose. Vac hoses connect near brake lines to hub.
I thought if you engaged the ESOF switch and your A/C switched to defrost then that was an indicator of a vacuum leak. Maybe I'm not on the same channel as the rest of you. When mine stopped working the A/C would switch over to defrost whenever the switch was toggled. I replaced the vacuum lines and the vacuum solenoid and it worked for a while but is now acting up again and the problem is in the hubs. Manual Warns are on the Christmas list.
The hubs can also get really corroded with rust and gunk etc, they require like 18lbs or something close to roll over the hubs. If theyre all gunked up a good working vaccum system will not roll them over. Are they difficult to roll over by hand?
no i can lock them manually no problem... but thats what i thought too that if ur ac switches over to defrost then u have a vacuum leak.. but when i change it over to 4hi auto the 4x4 light doest switch on but as soon as i manually lock the hubs and turn it to 4hi then the 4x4 light goes on

Believe you are correct Scott. Sounds like he has a vac leak, or bad vac pump, on the upstream side of the 4x4 vac solenoid.
Before replacing a lot of parts check the vacuum hoses at the wheel. They are proned to dry rotting and loosing their air tight connection at the wheel.
They are black hoses, about 3/8" OD. They press onto a barbed fitting just about the frame rail and then run down to the wheels and into the hubs in the back.
I changed my rubber hoses and went to the braided hoses from DieselSite when I was going through this problem. If you look in this pic you can see the vacuum hose coming from above the frame rail and heading down.
I'm not so sure that your problem is hose related but by all means check that. Just don't want you to buy an expensive set of hoses and then still have the problem.
