Speedometer calibration

I need to know how to recalibrate a speedometer in '05 SD to account for a change in tire size. Can it be done by a shadetree guy or is it a dealer job?

I had a '92 E150 that could be calibrated by entering a diagnotics mode and then enter the tire revs per mile spec. Fast and easy. Probably not the same anymore!

The dealer did mine for 59.99. Only took about 10 minutes.

I have a truspeed as well and find it works very well. Lets me use any size tire I want. Holds two settings at once so if you have two sets of wheels like I do you can switch between them with a flick of a switch without recalibrating.

Depends on what size tire you are talking about. The Ford PCM will only recognize revolution per mile numbers greater than 600, which is equivalent to about a 35" tire. So if you are going with tires smaller than 35" have your dealer update the PCM (or do it yourself with a programmer, but only some programmers can do this).

If you are going with tires larger than 35" you will need a device like the Superlift TruSpeed that the others mentioned.

These guys are all correct. The ford dealer can only do approx a 35" tire.

The in line box these guys are talking about is well known, it has been around for a long time. However, there are other ones out there that in my opinion are easier to use and are more robust. Technology has come a long way, digital electronics components is where it is at now, not turn pots.

All of the inline devices work about the same, however there is only one that I know of that the user actually provides a user interface. Also on the one I speak of the correction can be done accurately while parked instead of trying to tune it in while driving and such.
