I've got a 94 F150 with a drivetrain whine. From info I've read on this forum it is most likely the Mazda M5R2 transmission. I've had it up on jack stands trying to listen through a big screw driver against the case, but it sounds about the same from the front of the tranny to the back of the transfer case.
Have any of you personally repaired one of these? Do they require a lot of special tools or require fussy adjustments?
Also where can I buy a repair manual (perhaps I could read it and decide for myself)? After market manuals (like Haynes) don't seem to cover tranny repair.
Looks like an exchange unit is available for about $800.00. If I repair it myself, will I save much? Bearings usually aren't much money, but what else might I be in for?
