I won't be happy with a 6.9 (nor the FI 460/ZF I was going to put into it before I got the diesel bug). Either you can do it right once, or do it wrong twice. Either way the truck sits, I can't afford the fuel, and cant' justify it to drive back and forth to work, esp when your other car gets 50MPG.
Ive got a 75 F-250 crew, 2 wheel drive, thought about making it 4x4, but decided against it. It has a dana 60 locker in the rear, and besides making it a Lariat or close to,, is all I plan on doin to it
Wholy crap! I've seen a few random pics of that thing, but never the thread on the build. He seems ok at bodywork, not so good at the structural stuff though...
Still a cool truck - it definitely get point for being "different"
I have a 1978 F250 XLT that i did a frame off on. 460 with 60's front and rear. Not able to post pic but check my gallery and you can see it. Oil pump just seized up so now i am trying to figure out what I am going to do for a motor. Don't know if I will go to another 460 or put in a Cummins.
I drive an old truck because it is as you said in that thread NOT plastic. It is "Built Ford Tough" as they used to say when they actually made them that way...
I just can't see spending $50k on a new shiny plastic turd that will have all the fancy electronic gizmos go out in 3-5 years. I figured I'd buy a good looking, stong piece of american iron and put a newer power plant in it and have a better truck for under $30k when I'm done. Plus no power-joke motor for me - only the best (cummins!).
Sorry for this off topic rant, but some of these "you're poor so you buy old crap" opinions get to me. It's more of a I like the truck better, and I don't want to or have the funds to buy a new shiny turd every 3 years decision for me
Ok rant over - I sound like some bitter old man. You'd never know I am only 27!
Im glad i am not alone with the feleling that old trucks have lasted and will last for ages.. when you over complicate things like the new trucks that is where you give up reliability. and then to top it off your making them out of thinner metals, weaker metals (aluminum) and PASTIC!! that will crack and turn to dust.. if you ever lived in arizona you know what i am talking about... not to mention all teh squeeks and rattles from all the plastic cliips that are warped and broken off. aif they ever make them out of steel again on the inter that would be nice.. i would rather break my legs agenst a steel dash then look at that plastic toysRus dash in the new trucks.
