speedometer question
hard to say what will be the outcome if you connect the bike speedometer.
I had a similar problem on my '41 with a speedometer of a VW Bug, Nissan gearbox , Transit rear axle on 14" wheels. The reading needet to be pretty accurate in order to get a road registration in Germany. Here's what I did: I connected a electronic pick-up from a truck to a VDO Speedometer. In order to connect the pick-up to the gearbox I had the Nissan speedometer cable modified to fit the pick-up. The VDO speedometer can be adjusted in 2 way's : either you know how many impulses are generated by the pick-up per mile, or you set the speedometer in a learning mode, drive the exact distance of a mile , setting it back so it "knows" how many impulses he's got.
I set it approximatively , checked with the speed read of a GPS navigation system and changed the impulse figure until the reading was about 6% above the real speed.
Electronic pick-ups are available for most gearboxes, just check with your local reseller of gauges.
Hope this helps.
