weird chatter

I have a 1992 7.3 250 with a banks sidewinder turbo. Tranny blew seal. Prior to that it started to shutter and drop to 0 oil pressure and lug down and vibrate. At 0 oil pressure is 10lbs. Shutters in reverse. Shutters at stop light when warm. When it put it in neutral it runs fine. Shutters when I turn sharp left into parking space at slow speed.
Here is what I have done or had done.
1] Replaced tranny and converter with re-man.
2] Replaced tach sensor.
3] Replaced power steering pump
4] Set idle at about 700 rpm a friend had turned it down to low wanted to help
5] Replaced brake booster [pedal hard
6] Pedal still hard replaced vac pump. pedal ok now.
Shutter starts when i start brake or go in reverse.Stops when i come to full start.
Please advise. I think it is making me kind of crazy. Thanks steve

If you have the serpentine belt try removing it and driving around an empty parking lot see if the problem goes away.... spin all idler pulley's, tensioner pulley, water pump, alternator and A/C clutch. See if anything is rough..... If you have the multi belt setup remove them either one at a time or all at once and see which makes a difference.

Remember there will be no BRAKES so drive accordingly........... No water pump so limit engine ops and watch the temps..... No power steering........

After discussion at the shop this AM were under the impression the Torque converter may not be unlocking..... Did they rebuild your old trans or replace it, if they used the old sensors and solenoid pack etc the problem could remain.

Next time it happens place it in nuetral see if the problem goes away. Have you checked for codes.....any flashing light on the gear lever OD switch.

We think it could be a wiring problem if the TC and trans were replaced complete.

Trans torque

Trans and torqe were reman units. sent cores back. When original trans gave out had flashing on stick od light. new tranny light stayed out. Shutter does stop at stop light when I shift into neutal gauge reading is restored to mid ay position and idle ereturns to normal. What do you think? trhanks steve

Go for a drive at a highway speed without cruise engaged, at constant speed gently touch/hold the brake pedal...... the TC should unlock and the RPMs should rise 2-300 RPMs. If it does not do this there is a problem that should be scanned for a code. TC is not unlocking........this will cause all your problems.

Ok, Went out on the road [interstate] Got up to speed and touched brake and rpms went up 2 to 300. On about half of my attempts the truck just slowed down. I think my foot was too heavy on the brake. Problem is speedo went haywire and abs light came on and stayed on. Speedo now moves violently back and forth from my actual ground speed to zero. These are two new problems. Truck still shutters at full stop only relieved by going to neutral.
What do you think might have happened with the speedo and abs light.
I didn't mention earlier that the engine temp light came on and stayed on. I was told it meant i had overheated at one time. Occurred around when I had head leak and redid heads. two years ago. Any ideas, whats going on. Still crazy, maybe just a little bit crazier now. thanks steve

Gees will you stop breaking the truck!!!!!!!!

So the gentle brake contact did give desired results of 2-300 rpm drop.... once the TC unlocks braking effect is better..so that means the TC is unlocking.

Now you have a jumpy speedo .... so check the wiring on the rear axle speed sensor, possible breaks. Also try and wiggle all the electrical connections to the rear of the speedo cluster..... been a problem in that area too.

As for the RABs light it is signifying the RABs system is NOT working...... but this could be an electrical gremlin so wait on that one.

PM me your email addy and I will forward the ABS info for 93.... you may need to activate PM feature....

Check the overheat temp connector on the front lower corner of drivers side head....... look for worn wire touching the block or any other metal point grounding out makes the light come on. Does not have a memory feature from before.......

Thank you for your help. It is dark and cold here now, I am sure however this would feel like spring to you.Since we found that the torqe coverter unlocked do we have a plan B. If not torque lockup what else could cause this chatter. Dash vibrates and sounds like eeerrrrrrrr eeerrrrrrr constant. I will procede in the morning per your suggestions. I'll also try to remove neg battery cable see if that helps. My email is swledwith@hotmail.com
My truck is certainly raising the old stress level. Again thanks. let you know tomorrow how your remedies look
