BTW guys Russ has a really cool design for a airbox. I don't think it has the RJS patent yet but it's a good concept idea.
I really like KN filters and have used them often. I've never tried the top filter tho. And that stubstack looks wicked cool!! That's another must have for me x 2.
G, I thought you had forgot about the rough draft I had sent you a couple years ago.... Since then I have spent plenty of hours on the Drafting table and have made about a half dozen revision's on it....
I have talked to some of the guys in the other BBF forum about it...and they like the new concept....But I cant weld one up in time for the Owensboro meet by april....Even tho I do have an older mock up... But the latest revisions, have alot more Radius's in it, and a Bud you have heard me talk about with the SuperFlo 900 has agreed to put it thru some actual Carb to intake and port tests..and I'am sure I'll come back home with some suggestions..and go thru some more revisions and re-test.... Again and again..LOL
There is plenty of room, run two 3" tall filter elements(or 4" for that matter). No sense in spending that kind of money for air filter.
I've run K&N filters, but if you just get the cheaper tall element and only drive it occasionally don't worry about it.
Oh Hog wash larry !!! LOL... J/K Bud.....where the hell you been Hiding....The G/F keeping you busy wrapping presents for Chrismas?
You Know I have a 25th wedding anniversary coming up on Christmas Day..You could wrap up the Black Gal...and send her down to me... Did you get the spare slicks mounted for your next pass with Her??
Nope didn't forget about that one Bro!! LOL!!! I would like to see the latest revsion if and when you scan it. That project is always in the back of my mind.
Well "IF" when I get the trojan horse out of the big confuser....I'll have it reduced and send you an update....As I'am still working off the 8 year old laptop....slower than my truck right now!! LOL..
OK here is what I don't understand... What are they talking about here..>>> "This stubstack is designed to be used with Holley 390-850cfm square bore carbs (4150/4160), that have had the choke horn milled off and still use an air cleaner. Eliminates the need for hand polishing and radius work. Will work with all K&N Custom Chrome Racing Air Cleaners, including Tall Velocity Stack Air Cleaners."
What don't you understand about it? The substack fits over the top of the carb and smooths the air flow into the venturis. The aircleaner fits the carb top with the substack inside.
I think Car Crafter did an article on air filters (on tall and short filters) and you would be surprised on what you don't need to make power.
I remember that article. The total difference in air passed thru a K&N filter was so good, even the smallest one they tried was enough to keep the test mule supplied and that smallest was like a 4" diameter x 3" tall filter. In effect a bigger one really only bought you time between filter cleanings.

The part I don't understand is the part I put in BOLD!!! that have had the choke horn milled off and still use an air cleaner What does the part about choke horn milled off mean???
On many Holley carbs, there's a rectangular metal "horn" that sticks up around the primary bores that the choke butteryfly is mounted to. That rectangular metal part must be milled off to enable the K&N substack to fit the top of these carbs. Go on Holley's website and look at a std Holley 4bbl carb (like a list #1850 or 3310) and then look at an "HP" series 4 bbl carb, you'll see that is has no "horn" like the std Holley's do. The K&N substack will fit an "HP" series carb with no other mods.

Ok thanks. I have the 4160 750 Holley. I think from reading the K&N Website they make one just for that carb...

I'll try to dig up the artical on that!
PBear the P/N to what you need is this : K&N P/N 85-0200 It fits the one you got and a bunch of others to boot!
