WEll, finally got around to getting my MSD system, and installed it yesterday. I went with the Off-Road ignition as it is filled with a composite epoxy to prevent vibration induced failure. I also picked up their TFI Coil, as mine was atleast 3 years old, if not more.
Installation was as simple as can be, other than trying to find room to mount the box. I ended up moving around the vacuum canister and air pump filter(?) to make room for it on the passenger-side fenderwell. I'll be taking some pics this afternoon to post on my site for those interested.
As for performance increases, it definitely helped lessen the hesitation when you get on it from part throttle. My engine used to fall on it's face for a moment before coming to life when I'd mash the loud peddle, but now power is instantanious.
After a 3 hour test-drive through some pretty nasty mud, 2 foot deep water, and over a few small trees I'm happy (and grateful) to report that for durability purposes, the extra $50 over a 6AL box for the epoxy encasement is well worth the investment.
Just my 2cents. I installed my MSD-6A under the K&N FIPK kit I installed. There is a metal tub on the driver's side of the engine compartment where the stock air box sat. In its place is the K&N FIPK kit and right under that, bolted the metal tub is my MSD. I had to add some extra wire to the power leads of the MSD and ran them along and under the space right under the hood latch that is covered by two strips of thick rubber.

I was looking there, but I haven't done my air intake mods yet, so I still have that big ugly black box in the way.
Eventually, I think I'm going to fab up an L-bracket to mount on the passenger fender where the stock jack mount was, then mount the box on it horizontally.
Just a thought, look where your fuel pump relay, eec relay, and your test leads are. There's a nice size space right there. Just build you a new mounting bracket, and remount your relays and all to that. Basically just make a saddle mount to put your MASD box in. If I ever save up enough money to order mine, I'll show you guys what I'm talking about.

Hmmm... I've been thinking of ordering the MSD Ignition and a K&N FIPK for my '93 and installing them both at the same time so this arrangement of yours sounds like just the plan for me. How do you feel the effect of these two mods has been on the power and fuel consumption of your I6?

I don't have any numbers from a dyno but the MSD helped out with the gas mileage and acceleration was smoothed out. The K&N FIPK really allowed the inline 6 to breath. Good intake rumble and good all around power.

Having mine replaced this morning, good thing today is payday cause $490 that could have gone towards a FIPK and an MSD Ignition (among other things that i want to do...) is about to go towards covering the cost of replacing those darn ball joints. (guess the FIPK and MSD will just have to wait for another paycheck or two).

LAST EDITED ON 27-Apr-01 AT 01:13 PM (EST)[p]After I installed the K&N and MSD my mpg went up from 14mpg to 17mpg in city. Not bad for just two upgrades. Also took the truck to a emissions tester and exhaust was cleaner than it was before, kind of a before and after test. My hog wild upgrades killed my gas mileage after I installed a set of 4.10 ring and pinion gears with 31" BGF tires. Gas mileage is now at a all time low of 12mpg. THis sucks let me tell ya, but man this truck will crawl, I also have a PowerTrax No-Slip locker installed too, over anything it can straddle and then some. Even some of my friends are surprised at how good this truck moves over stuff. Just think Traildawg, when you get your locker your truck will be unstoppable!!!!!!

Well, unstopable until I hang up my rear bumper/hitch again :P What's that I see.....custom built tube bumpers in my future? LOL
BTW, did you have your computer reprogrammed for the larger tires paulg? If not, you're milage would actually be slightly better. I know mines WAY off after last weekends trip. What I know is a 92 mile trip only showed 68 on my odometer after going from 235/75-15's to my 35's.
